Benny1518: Justjim.... Well said. I agree with you. However, in some poor remote societies the average life span is low compare to us.
I can see what you mean, my comments are souly based on my opinion and cultural experiences, no disrespect is meant, I'm basically talking about a situation where a 60 year old man marries a 12 year old girl, to me that's just wrong and disregards the rights of the child.
Nidi... I see you point. Some kids mature before others however, lawmakers in some countries put 18 as a standard time when most young are mature enough to make an important decision as marriage.
Benny1518: There are stories that in some cultures girls are getting married too young and some are commuting suicide. What do you think CS members?
It is very easy to be influenced when young. There should be a legal age of about 18 (which I still find very young) to make sure that kids are mentally and physically mature.
Benny1518: Peach.. Are you sure. 30 could be too old
No couples could live together first get their finances and home together grow with each other maybe one would outgrow the other or maybe not and then marry, haha,
I'm just joking ,,seriously I think 21 is a fair age,, I got married day before my 21 st,
We did okay it lasted for 15 years , 19 years all together as we courted as they say for few years first.

I don't agree. I don't think anybody under 18 is mature enough to be married. Most people aren't mature enough past the age of 18 to make a commitment for life. We set the age of legal maturity at 18 and I think it's 17 when you can go and get yourself killed in a war. 21+ to smoke and drink. I think marriage should be allowed at the age of legal maturity because it involves a legally binding contract between two people that has serious consequences.
We say on the one hand that a teenager is to be tried in juvenile court if they commit a crime because they aren't able to comprehend the seriousness of an offense; we say that people under 18 lack the mental capacity to enter into a legal contract, so contracts with minors are in most cases null and void, yet we allow a 16 year old to enter into a lifetime contract? tsk tsk...
Long story short, I think 18 should be the legal limit.
