Why are women so fascinated with horses confused I see/have seen plenty of womens profiles on various sites stating that they love horses/horse riding.

What is the big deal dunno (besides staying on it).

Some power under your bum lookin. grin

If you like dogs, a horse can be a good companion, too, and you can do a lot more besides going for a walk with him. Covering fair distances, exploring of the country side, if you are doing dressage it does require a fair amount of riding skills (I would love to be a bit better at that).

Also - speed and power, I love a fast horse (or a fast car). cool

I like to be able to look down on some of my cattle rather than up from the seat of a quad bike .

Maybe because I had a "him". For 21 years I had a little half arab, my best mate and most important thing in the whole wide world. laugh

We have big forest areas where I grew up and I would roam around with him for 6 hours on the weekends and cover quite some distances.

Just keeping a low profile for a while lookin, thanks. hug

There is nothing better for moving cattle or checking fences in hilly areas than a horse. laugh

I do miss him. I wouldn't want another horse because it is too time consuming and expensive here (it was ok on a farm, we had enough room and feed) and I sometimes go horse riding, but it's not the same for me as having my little mate.

It's a great way of getting to know the countryside, walking doesn't get you that far and I'm past doing a lot of cycling. hole

I do remember many years ago on the in-laws property coming across a motor-biker who had managed to "descend the back escarpement." After cutting through a number of stock fences to get there.

"Sorry mate, I just cut that fence as I did not think I could get back up that hill. Everyone does it"

Uuummm. He had cut through the neighbours sheep property into the inlaws cattle property. And more than 1 fence to do this. And it was a big NoNo as the cut fences also meant that now the livestock was wandering onto State/National Parks.

Also had a cousin who had to foot a mega-Govt bill because his deer had wandered into National/State Park areas (that they had donated to the Govt) after vandals/hunters cut their fencing.

When a young tacker a group of us kids used to go to a horse riding club. It was pretty cool as we just mosey'd along and all followed eachother dancing till it was time to go back, then the farkers took off like a jet fighter super doh

Never did get the hang of it mumbling lucky that big round thing was on front of saddle or me and a couple others would have def eaten dirt barf sore ribs everytime.

We had to have locks on all the gates and I checked all the further away fields with the above mentioned pony before we put in cattle.

If I would have seen his license plate, I would have reported him. grin

Not only destroying fences, livestock can walk onto roads and someone can get killed. thumbs down

serene56: Yeah I was seeing a country boy for a while (giddy up lol) he was very comfortable around horses and tried to encourage me to be confident with them also We went bush for a few days, camping, and on the way stopped to admire a couple of beauties, apples in hand ...I still remember him saying they get a 'look' in their eye (??) when they're gonna bite which was no comfort to me in any way and still isn't

It's not for everyone, they are big and can be dangerous and if someone is afraid or apprehensive, you don't do anyone a favour putting them on a horse.

I was quite a wild one with that horse and basically lucky that never anything happened. uh oh I have gotten a lot more careful at this stage when I get up on a horse.

It is sometimes saver to admire things from afar (goes for a lot of things). laugh
