Since I moved to Ireland, I have noticed - the Irish do not seem to game. I have one from Wicklow in my current guild on Star Wars the Old Republic, he agrees, very few Irish gamers.

So I am putting the question to the few here (hardly a big comprehensive study, but oh well) - why?
Price too high of the machines needed to run up-to-date Online Games?
Do you find it a waste of time to game?
Are you sort of scared to try, unsure what it's about?

What is keeping you personally from joining this huge and continuously growing community?

Below a vid made by a fan of a game planned for release 2016. Those are ingame graphics. This is massive.. it has raised over 60 million dollars in crowdfunding so far (record breaking) and that's where only small modules are available to be played as of yet.

Escapism for the win, I know, but I have reflexes that can compete with teenagers. TV has you just sit and consume, this at least gets you actively involved, plus it has a massive social side to it as well. So why so few Irish into this?

Song rocks too tongue

(vid is not coming up in preview, only the link, no clue why)

I would say that one of the reasons is the poor internet connectivity outside of any city, and even if you do have excellent connectivity, a lot of people won't waste their data usage on gaming, if you go over your limit the charges can cripple you. Another reason is probably down to people just not having the time in modern Ireland.

It could just be down to poor graphics and like the other guy said poor connectivity and cost.

Not really Into fantasy stuff but I have and do play some war games online. War commander from kixeye and now play world of tanks. I spent loads of money on them and I would imagine that's a big factor. Also Internet is poor outside of urban areas and if your ping is over 100 pointless playing

Howya Stan yeah it's been a while alright. Worst final ever but someone was eventually going to do to them what they had been doing to others

Ah.. they do. Just remember that we're a small population here. Probably more traditional rally/soldier type games, though. FPS types.

@ jimbo79
Heard of World of Tanks, great game from what I have been told handshake

@ MADDOG
Yes, I think you are correct on the numbers. Ireland does of course have far fewer people then most of the other countries. That would have to contribute to lower numbers, and mentality might support the 2nd point you made thumbs up

@ mollybaby
'Life in the real word'... I personally prefer to take the best of both worlds, but maybe I am just greedy laugh

As for connectivity though, as was mentioned, I am on a dongle and manage fine. Some lag, but nothing to stop me cheering
