Wouldn't it be easier to name holidays that ARE in your country , and not in other ones?
More people would know their own ones than ones in other countries.

In Cuba, in July, they have a 3-day national holiday ( Día de la rebeldía nacional) to celebrate the first major start to the Revolution.
They take a day off before and after the actual day as well.
I like that thinking!
