I have been aware of the dangers of bushfires from around 1960. Every summer having to deal with a fire (often more) "down the back" that some kid had lit and lost control, sometimes deliberately. I can mention Kenny D as I do believe the forces (of crime) had probable caught up to him many years ago as I do recall in 1983 when even prison could not keep him safe.

I may seem a bit of "I don't care" but realistically, people should be aware of what they are heading into.

Go to Antartica and it "might" be cold. NO...it will be bloody freezing no matter when you go.

Go to Iran and because are a Christian trying to help these unbelievers, God will protect you. NO...it will be bloody not as it seems there are some different gods around offering better deals.

If you live in an isolated location with limited services servicing a very large area, be very aware of the limited options available to you.

news here yesterday was saying there is/was 350 fires burning . Can't see with all the fires over the years that there would be any thing to burn .

Just hope those showers are falling where they are needed.

The other day I did a fb post showing the rain falling around me. Like all of 1 minute later and it all ended.

A big problem with some fires that do burn for a considerable period of time with minor impacts on suburbia/those who love to have trees all around peoples is they can be many weeks in happening. As soon as they do impact on those that "love to hug trees" is the complaints that the volunteer fire fighters did not protect those "homes among the gumtrees."

Re the trees... well, I never!!!, found out that now we don't have to worry about chopping down our trees, and finding out if the circumference is a certain size or not.. etc.. re abhorists specifications and all that...
We are deemed a fire zone, so we can chop anything..

very mad wish that was the case 5 years ago, I could still have had my own driveway, and not a shared one.. all because of one tree, which by the way, part died, and the council blokes chopped most of it ... very mad

Oh... how the rules change to suit... doh

I remember many years ago when the Council I worked for was going to install very large pipes so that the deep open channel beside the road could be filled in, and a few of the large trees would need to be removed. The channel was one of those dug in a straight line as part of realigning the creek so a straight road could be constructed many, many decades earlier.

The local ferals greenies got the local pollies on side and Council was told by State Parliament they could not remove the trees. As concrete pipes do not really want to bend this way and that, some of the tree roots had to be cut...not many. BUT.......as it turns out, this is not what killed the trees......it was because the open channel/creek was not there to provide moisture for the trees.
