stanley8m: As a result of the lively debate on the subject of obesity, I thought it would be interesting to have a thread where people can voice their opinion and discuss this topic.

Would you tell a friend they are overweight?
How would you phrase your advice?
Would you suggest an exercise programme, diet etc?

As a believer in freedom of speech, all are welcome, but if you find the topic offensive, please try to argue your point in an intelligent, coherent manner.

I support what Blank posted, what mj posted, and what molly posted, and I can understand why Max might be upset. Two threads now in short succession revolving around the same topic. None of us here is perfect. We all have flaws, visual ones as well as those hidden from sight. Doubt most of us would like to be singled out for our own individual flaws, so why do we feel a right to point at the imperfections of others?

Obesity surely is a problem in our society and there is need for help and education to fight weight problems, but to hurt people can hardly be the way forth. It is a devaluation of a whole group of people, based on a physical value, and to me that is unacceptable. That's a lack of compassion I find highly worrisome.

ok im gona give this a shot see what happens.yes i would give a friend some advice if i taught he or she was overweight/underweight after all he/she is my friend. I would cut to the chase and be straight up as in, something like that top or jeans or dress or trouser's has become a little tight.
I wouldnt suggest an exercise program but recommend they see a profes as im not one, to advise he/she on a proper diet. Ive had this slapped up to me it hurt at time but it was my friend that said it to me. I was under weight back then but great nowteddybear teddybearPlease take no offense as there is none intended. handshake
