Just wondering how would a man feel if he had to sell the farm (or any family business for that matter) in order to pay off his wife who was the one who did the cheating. Around 7 year's ago a woman i know was found to be having an affair with a local fella who also happened to be 14 year's younger than her. Nothing wrong with the age difference as far as i'm concerned but it was just that eventually she told her husband she wanted a divorce and would be looking for her half share of the farm which had been in his family for a couple of hundred years. They had only been married for 6 years. So, last year, that was exactly what the judge ordered would have to be done and the farm was sold for 1.5 million and she got her half....she already has a very well paid job as a detective in the drug's squad......i would just be interested to know how people would feel if they had to do something like this through no fault of their own.....is it fair?...

not many of those had a family asset 2 hundred years lost .
I have seen this many times happen to farms held over many generations , nothing like 200 years though . Its the number one reason for farm business failure . A farm adviser at a DairyNZ fielday speech mentioned it 6 times in ten minutes . Banks do not like refinancing farmers who go through it which makes a sale more likely . I know one guy who has been through it twice staying in business by luck more than good management . Its not just a male loosing out either as I know of woman faced with the same problem , one not married but living with a guy .

I hear what you are saying about family possessions over generations. I don't have squat compared to most but it is what it is and I don't have another thirty-years to try and recover losses due to a divorce settlement which happens all to often. So, I'm very cautious in finding mz right for me again.

.....i's like the joke about what an aold farmer said when somebody asked him why he never got married....well, he said, "it's like this"...."why would I walk up the aisle with my entire farm and walk down with half it"...
At this day and age people with their own farm or business should have enough cop on to make a pre-nup to protect what each party brings into a marriage.
Unfortunately it's not recognised in all countries.
I wouldn't want to marry anyone without a pre-nup (not that I'm planning anyway) and I have been with a guy who had more than I had. I'm not a user and don't want to be used either.
In Canada where I live because he owned it prior to their marriage she would not of been entitled to it; only half of the appreciated value for the six years. My sister learned that when she went to get a divorce. Laws have to keep up with the times.

With the short info given it seems unfair but there must have been other factors that the judge took into consideration to rule for the family’s property be divided or the guy did not seek for a better lawyer (s).
Do young guys realty want a committed relationship with a mature woman? I doubt it.
Would a young guy prefer a rich mature woman with to a young girl –making the minimum wage- but with a gorgeous body? He can have both and the comfort of the mature lady assets.
Does the mature lady think his young lover will be only for her? She has to sing like Édith Piaf and perhaps.
Wait until the lady assets touch cero and then she will see what real love is.

.....I d'ont think we will have need to worry about this lady's assets becoming depleted anytime soon!... As i said already she is very good looking....looks way younger than her age.....dresses beautifully.....not a hair out of place on her head at any time.....and she has an excellent salary as a top drug's detective.....in the looks department she is way ahead of her younger partner and also way ahead in the brains department.....if anybody ever did the leaving my opinion would be that it would be her.....no, she will never be short of money or admirers.....

That works out at €125k a year!
Seeing as she didn't have an interest in the business beforehand, and I very much doubt she had any involvement with it while they were together, then I find it surprising the judge found in her favour.
If her job is well paid enough to support him while they were together, then he should counter sue her to make up the alimony so he can continue his standard of living he had while they were together.

And neither she will be cheated or perhaos she would not mind it.
Beauty ends and gravity does his work (must be a man invented thing ) and there will always be younger and prettier persons.
