I have a hotmail account I use for anything that isn't family or business related. I don't really have a problem giving that one out.

If you do, ensure that it is from another account and use it with your onion router or any 'fingerprint' erasing technology you can secure.

Sorry you have a bad experience.
I gave my mail to few people and non of them was a scammer.

But, being careful regarding who you want to give it is very important.
Use your own judgement.

giving someone ur email is cool nothing wrong with it. if they try asking for money or whatever then its ur fault. ran into a lot of gals on here that say they lookin for love but actually just want money. if a person don't wanna get scammed its easy u say no

Too late.
Eventhough I do have only one personal e-address and I do not open spam mail, just empty it right the way the whole bin and for my in-mail if I know not the person I erase their mail as well.

I get around once a month a pm saying to get back by email. Usually beautiful young ladies :-) I did so some times and now my yahoo account is spam flooded and I'll abandon that account. Of course I didn't give my primary email. :-)
This is even getting so annoying I might delete my account.

lifeisadream, yes you're right to not open attachments especially on obsolete Windows. On Ubuntu I never had any virus etc. problems since 1998 :-)

Then how do you contact potential suitors? This thing about not giving out your email address sounds to me like throwing away the baby with the bath water. I have no problem giving out mine.

As some have already suggested, there are a few things you can do to protect yourself online, but the first thing you need to be reminded of is, no one can jump out of your computer because you communicated with them there.laugh

1. Email addresses are a dime a dozen these days. Create one at will for handing out to strangers. For this, I recommend Gmail.

2. Most email clients have filters and spam blockers that puts you in control of what mails you see. You get a mail from someone you don't want to communicate with anymore, block them; filter future mails into the trash bin. You are in control.

Most people are here to meet someone. Don't make it unnecessarily hard. The things that can endanger you are the kind of information you share with strangers, like sensitive personal information. As for giving out your email, you cannot make omelets without breaking the egg.
