Do you think females make better bosses than males. Let's face it, if it was a choice between hiring two girls would the male boss hire the more suitable candidate or the"hot totti"? Would a female boss make a more rational decision rather than an ememotional one?

Male or female can be good, as long as they are prepared and have the qualifications for the job they will do fine.

really good question - for I have had a variety of different women bosses over the years and they are either, from my experience, really good, or really not.
Women that adopt their own style of leadership do much better than those that try to take on the characteristics of male style leadership.
the my way or the highway style does not really, in my opinion work for women. Except if it is a military leadership environment.
If the woman's communication skills are strong and she is a good listener - the office can thrive. But mostly women who know what they are doing, and can communicate that to their employees are the most successful.

My first wife was my boss. Completely forceful, dominant, linguistically-articulate and , at times, showing absolutely no remorse! It was as though...oh, wait a minute...sorry... that wasn't my wife at all...So, if your out there, Busty Bertha: You had no right to charge me for that salt for the whip-wounds!!

Generally speaking the female bosses I have known didn't have the personality and charisma for the job. They've been quite authoritarian but they didn't lead in a way that makes you want to follow them and they tend to provoke a lot of resentment within the ranks(especially amongst the women). They tend not to have an apathy with those beneath them(male bosses often don't - but they're better faking at it)and you very much did the job because you were being paid to do it.

JeanKimberley: so true.
I prefer female bosses.
It does not make any difference to me about my boss being Female or Male.
I have had men bosses and women bosses and I have been a boss for men and for women. For a good job to be achieved there has to be a combination of skills with human sensibility, although it depends on the job.
At my younger days being a Boss (for men and women) I had some mistakes, some of which I have been able to mend. An important approach is to acknowledge that I do make mistake and the worse thing is not to see them, to start with.

Nope I don't think women make better bosses.I had several women bosses and found out that with having men as bosses there wasn't all that cattiness going on.

Although, not preferential treatment to women just because I am a woman.

I'm a bit biased, however, because most of the female bosses I've known have been an industry that women don't have any skills and experience in.
Our female bosses were always non-technicals who didn't know the profession and industry, they were never amongst the workers, and it's unlikely that they've ever done an honest day of practical work in their lives. They tended to come in and impose a raft of new measures they'd learned at some generic management training course suitable for managing monkeys at walmart, which then failed miserably, and then the department would be left to manage itself and undo all the damage.
I have had both male and female bosses, and had mixed relationships with both genders.
Taking away the two psychopaths (1 male, 1 female), I can honestly say that at the end of the day it came down to their professionalism and personality more than their gender overall.
I have had a female boss for the last year and she was brilliant - no micro-managing, let us get on with our work, yet there if we needed assistance.
I will have a male boss in the near future, so only time will tell.
