I had a slate tile come off my roof in the storm last year,

Right now I have a roofer up on my roof. Where he has been mending one tile and replacing another,

He must be frozen to the bone as he been up there over two hours and yesterday too.

Hard workers those roofers and I know I got a good one they contractors and I told them when I phoned that I had a surveyer to check the roof afterwards as I was getting my house priced.

Yes those roofers not cowboys I got,,the man still going at it up there,

thumbs up

Roofer still hammering away up on the roof it's right near the chimney,

I better not light my fire I don't want to smoke him out,

I'm freezing inside ,,I wouldn't want to be high up on that roof of mine,

If I was and I looked down my head would spin and I'd fall off.

Omg you were very lucky John jim and lucky you alive and your son too.

Roofer all done I thought thete was just one tile missing which there was but two others were broken too near the chimney ,

I live on the corner and its on the hilly side and guess my roof more exposed to those storms,

I hope I don't lose any more ,,,

Was a big hole in my attic before the slate was put on,

I'm just glad it's done now.
Or my whole house would rot away.

One of the best ones I had was a call to mend a roof, got there and mr DIY husband had attempted an attic conversion. First thing he done to make space in the attic, was remove the jutting out big hollow wall thing at the gable end of the attic. You can guess the rest.laugh

Was two tiles badly damaged and one needed replaying ,plus was a huge gaping hole in my attic. The job is done in three hours and that was with him taking short break to get supplies,

A very good job done ,properly is an old roof too,

They are local contractor firm from my neibouring town and work done after just two days after me phoning.

Professional and on the ball.

Had someone to inspect it too and said excellent job.

I will get them again if need be,

You could scaffold out a house, strip off the old tiles and lower them to the ground, remove all the old nails and battens, mend/repair the old roof, check all the lead flashing and replace where required, apply a weather proof membrane to the roof, batten out the entire roof and retile it, mix the cement and lay all the ridge and hip tiles, wait until the cement is dry and point them up for weatherproofing, take down your scaffolding and tidy up the site. You can do all this in two hours. wow

Give us your number mate, I have plenty of work for you if you want it. laugh

teddybear

Yeah and you also have the sense to know that if you are going to take down a chimney the best place to start is at the top, and not in the attic. Think felling a tree type scenario. laugh

Some people might want to go at the tree from the base and dig down to the roots,

Haha,

Yes of course that makes sense think of the chimney as the top of the tree and take it from there.

Well stan question for you,

I have a very big kitchen I would like to install a stove fire but as it will have to go where the gable wall is which is opposite my stove fire in sitting room,,the same wall .

I was told it would cost thousands as its the retaining wall that supports the house and it would mean having to install the space for chimney,

What do you think,?

I didn't know you were still working the old way, with cement, I like to point that when it's wet, not dry. But sure put another half hour on that time and it'll give me time to have a few rollies as wellsmoking

Honestly Peach, I would have to see it, did you ask the men who mended your roof? They should be able to give you some idea of the work involved.

Aah yes ill ask them thanks stan,

My oil burner is broke eroded .

I have radiators for oil but would love to change to a big stove fire with the rods to heat up whole house,

The stove fire in my sitting room is average size and that alone gives out great heat that can be felt in the hall and bit in kitcen too .

So with another stove fire in the kitcen my house be well warmed upstairs too.

Probalaly be costly but be well worth it,

Must check my lotto numbers.

Lol.

stay safe on the roof.

It doesn't matter how you bed them down just as long as you've bedded them well. It all goes on customer satisfactionlaugh

True, what's the old saying, you have to handle timber the same way as you handle a woman. wink
