Have you ever ha to go through some of you own belongings, things that you've forgotten about, stored somewhere, like your parents home(s)?
Been doing this for the last few nights, in my Dad's garage, despite the cold weather. I haven't found a lot that's interesting, but some items have brought back a lot of memories. Some of the great neighbours I had while growing up, men and women both, and some of friends I had, that I haven't seen in 20/30 years.
Have you found anything stashed away, that you haven't seen in years, that brings back any memories, good or bad?
People are generous around here and don't mind stopping for me to make a fuss of their dogs. I made friends with a beagle-ish mutt called Cookie yesterday. She was lush.

hiya kid
i've kept very few things from my childhood. one of them was a battery operated flocked bear, sitting on a log, drinking cola. when i was five or six, i damaged him and he hadn't worked since. but of all those childhood things, it was him that i secretly kept. recently i dug him out of storage and BB had him repaired for me. it brought back a lot of memories both good and bad. it was a wonderful gift...because now..not only does he work, somehow in repairing him...it triggered some memories, which i was able to let go of and be grateful in the present.
for me...objects are symbols, and we assign the meaning to them. this little bear has a whole new batch of good memories for me now.
I used to have a tiny little bear like this one. He was about and inch and a half high and I called him FART. He got lost somewhere along the line of moves, but now every time I fart I think of him (which is quite often, actually).

Nope, I don't do 'stuff' like you, ya hoarder
If it's not useful or beautiful, it's out the door
Glad to hear of at least a few people finding things, from their childhood or recent years. Things they have forgotten, or even things they knew were there.
PS: I'm not a hoarder.
Hoarders collect anything and everything, a lot of which has no real value or use. Everything I have is good stuff, has an actual use in my life, or is at least worth something. I have no time or space for crap, end of.

I dunno if I'd say objects are always symbols, but often they can be. For me, they're usually more a means to an end, or occasionally an expression of one's self in something I've created.
Either way, it's an outlet, and many can't seem to understand that.
