Health insurance has gone up and up and up over the years, and what is the governments response? Make it cheaper? make the service better? Make sure that the insurance companies stop selling crap cover?
No, instead they threaten to make it more expensive if you don't sign up for it in the next month if you are over 35.
If you can't afford it now, how the hell do they expect you to afford it with an added levy, on top of the levy that is already on it?

If they really want to bring down the cost, what they should do is reduce the amount of poor people clogging up the health service with their medical cards. I would suggest providing huge waiting rooms with limited staff, and instead of putting sick poor people in beds perhaps put them on trolleys in corridors.

That should work. thumbs up

You are a man ahead of your times, Stan... that's a BRILLIANT plan. And let them think they are going to get medical attention, when in actual fact they'll just pop their clogs off in a lovely, sterile corridor.

That's been thought of already, but doesn't work quickly enough blues

How about not having enough ambulances, especially in rural areas? idea

Oh no, they've thought of that too moping

How about a self-serviced A&E department... like the time I had to run around and grab bandages and hold together my daughter's arm whilst the doctor stitched it on the run. And I had to pay for that privilege, too

Henon and Molly, I honestly had a discussion with a chief policy planner who believes the way forward for Ireland is to develop the Dublin region, and forest the rest. Sorry Cork. laugh

Why limit it to A&E?

I think neurosurgery needs the common touch too

Ah sure, that's no problem - all the sickos are up north anyway - we don't need it in Cork. grin

There's an idea - DIY shock treatments in the comfort of your own home. Simply place fingers in socket and short-circuit yourself. It's not rocket science.

I paid a neurosurgeon 200 quid recently to tell me exactly what the technician at Euromed had written on my MRI. Such value for money.

Na. Seeing as I have vast experience in a 3rd World country, Cork is pretty much first-world to me now. We have plasters, and TCP, and all sorts.

I think you'll find we're doing pretty ok down here in the South - even in my town.

Check out mphc.ie

Not too shabby for the sticks handshake That's over and above a hospital 1 mile from me, plus doctors galore.

No need for city life for me.
