A good friend of mine was a career military officer. For over 20 of his 35 years active duty, he was a drill instructor. Every so often, he would take a recruit who was holding up the drill march aside. In a very fatherly manner, he would put his hand on the guy's shoulder, and say, "Son, I have a problem here I want you to help me iron out". The recruit would invariably say, "Sure, Sarg, name it". The DI would say, "Well, I want you to talk to all these bunkmates of yours. You see, no matter what I do, or how loud I blow the whistle, they are all out of step except you".
"..a bushel and a peck, and a hug around the neck a hug around the neck and a barrel and a heap a barrel and a heap and I'm talkin' in my sleep----OOOOH-- I love you, a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck and a barrel and a heap and I'm talkin' in my sleep"!!

Okay, I'm game. Assuming the recruit stayed in--here's what happened: He learned to march the same way the rest of the company was learning, and thus the entire company was all out of step, which, of course, made them only APPEAR to be IN step. See how easy that was? Imagine--they actually got one over on the silly old Sergeant! Brilliant, no?

Sure, but then what happened? Where´s the punchline? I just don´t get it
