Who adheres to the tradition of abstaining from the consumption of meat on Good Friday?

Despite not being a good practising Catholic I will respect the old tradition of abstinence today. Partly because I am fond of a bit of fish anyway, but how about my fellow CS,ers. Will you abstain from eating meat today?

Lovely, and even more delightful with the sea air. I have some fresh cod marinating in lemon juice, with a dash of sea salt to bring out the natural marine flavour. thumbs up

I think it is a small token gesture once a year and if you are doing it then do it for yourself.yay

Sure years ago people had fish every friday (some still do).

I did have fish but i sliced four rooster potatoes and roasted them. Will not go down as an all time great fastyay

At least twice a yr for practising Catholics. You forgot 'Ash Wednesday'.

The Church emphasizes the penitential nature of Ash Wednesday by calling us to fast and abstain from meat. Catholics who are over the age of 18 and under the age of 60 are required to fast, which means that they can eat only one complete meal and two smaller ones during the day, with no food in between.

I had fish - yesterday.

Today I am boiling some bacon, with cabbage and spuds.... it's only a "sin" if you think it is.

I don't.

So bacon it is.

I abstain enough from everything else throughout the year, I have done enough penance grin

I was referring to good friday being one day of the year. Sure the thread by stan is about good friday. Ash wednesday also a day a fast is observed by many is a seperate occasion altogether.

I'd like to know why Christians called it 'Good Friday' when their main man got crucified....

Wouldn't be able to sort that one out for you. Any beliefs i have i keep to myself. As i said earlier stan's thread is about acknowledging a day of fast or not doing so.

Manu, come out of the closet (we know you aren't happy)...Admit it, every full moon you wrapp a goat skin around you and chant to the full moon.

Noooo thats for the optics. Read between the lines. Women admitting they're having or had 'meat' today.. Other's not so lucky.

I, myself have said there is something about the smell of fresh tuna that brings back many good (nearly said happy) memories. As for chewing a good salty kipper....
