R.I.P Ben (36)
serene56: Just back from a week at my daughter's, so lovely, got lots of doggy love from my granddog, Peggy.
Was incredibly hard to walk back into the house knowing my boy would not be here..
I wonder when every move I make and every thing I do will stop bringing a sudden jolt of reality - no, he's not gonna come trotting out to the kitchen when I'm cooking, no more little expectant looks and wagging tail when I put 'those' shoes on and grab the house keys, no turning a corner and seeing that little mite sitting inside the front door, watching the world go by.
And a million other things.
His ashes are here now, it's somehow comforting as though he's come home in a way.
But he never really left.

Last night I wrote a poem for my boy
It rolled straight from my heart and onto the keyboard
It's a little lengthy so I'll break it into parts..
My Boy
When we first met
My heart soared with joy
So tiny and perfect
A beautiful boy!
We spent time together
You'd sit on my lap
Enjoying a cuddle
Next to the cat
As weeks went by
I took you to school
So clever you were!
You learnt every rule..
Then it was time
For you to move on
You were my granddog
Our time was to come
And later it did!
How perfect, how right!
Sharing your joy
When I came home every night!
Wagging your tail, jumping with glee
How lucky I was
To have you with me
We'd go in the car
You loved doing that
I'd open the door and
You'd hop in the back
And how many miles did we walk
You and me!
Hundreds I'd say and you'd have to agree
Lots of good meals
We both loved to eat
You'd get so excited when I gave you a treat!...
For you to move on

Just logged in and read this thread again with tears streaming down my cheeks. Thanks Mr. L and Serene. It's such a shame people couldn't love each other as unconditionally as we love our dogs and them us.
My girl was the only the thing I've truly ever loved and lost. I got the vet to come here as I wanted her to pass away where she was comfortable and loved. Saddest day of my almost 59 yrs.

Ups and downs, some days are bearable, others I find I weep on and off through the day.
