MPs on the committee warned holidaymakers could face huge queues at Eurotunnel and ferry ports when checks on passengers leaving Britain start on April 8.

Border chiefs have already pushed back the start date for the checks by one week to avoid introducing the new system over the busy Easter weekend.

Checks will involve operators recording passport information on all travellers and passing the details on to the Home Office, which will use the details to identify immigration offenders.

However, Sir Charles told MPs coach parties of children under 16 would be excluded to reduce delays.
lose the door they're coming in the windows. Many criminals are coming in.
He added: ‘The coach sector is the most difficult of all logistically and that has been the focus of trials and testing. We still have to refine the process to ensure it works as smoothly as possible. I’m confident we will have a solution come the live date.’

Calais is under pressure from more than 2,500 immigrants, many fleeing disasters in Africa and the Middle East. Often they are determined to reach the UK, attracted by work, free health care and generous benefits.

Many are ‘prepared to die’ to reach Britain, believing it to be like the mythical lost city of gold, El Dorado, according to Calais mayor Natacha Bouchart.

On October, a 16-year-old Ethiopian girl was killed when she was knocked down as she crossed the Channel Tunnel approach road.

This has been building up for years, the French in their wisdom saved a lot of money as they did NOT bother to return these illegal immigrants to their port of entry, now it has got so out of hand the UK government is spending loads of money erecting very high fences around the rail terminal which is a waste of time and money as again the French do not patrol the perimeter you can tell the French are starting to take it a bit more seriously by sending 100 more Gendarmes to try and stop as many as 3000 illegal immigrants breaking into the rail terminal

I don't quite see things the same way. Having been a empire, the British granted local control that the people in those nations wanted. Look what they have done with it. Some as in America and Australia, Canada, even India have done quite well. Good for us. Perhaps the rest should have asked the British to stay.

Sovereign nations have the right to patrol and control their borders. They have the right to set immigration policy and enforce it. I agree with Tomcat it is an invasion that must be stopped. If people are not willing to apply for legal entry into a country, how do you think they are going to behave once they get in....all of a sudden become model citizens? ummmm, right.

his assessment of America makes it fairly clear that he has never been here, or at least hasn't much experience here. Our infrastructure is fine (needs some yes, but it is huge so it always will need some work...lol)

We can resolve our debt by fining Mexico and Central American countries the costs of housing and returning their countrymen. lol

The logical thing to do would be to place a much heavier tax bracket on unregistered immigrants taking jobs, as well to do the same for those who hire them. Make it more unappealing to illegally migrate while at the same time, helping the goverened budgets.

But they're not going to do that because economically, there's a much larger profit in hiring them while at the same time, recieving additional taxes on any products sold that were made by those immigrants.

Of course, that only applies to illegal immigrants taking on jobs, but has nothing to do with any that are illegally coming in for the free meal, bed and med ticket.

When you have free health care and free welfare, you should expect anyone and everyone to take advantage of it. And therein lies the rest of your illegal immigrant problem.

David Cameron has issued a direct threat to illegal immigrants that "we will find you and make sure you are sent back to the country you came from", as Labour and Ukip attacked his latest crackdown on benefits for new arrivals from the European Union for not being tough enough.

The prime minister said he would make sure migrants from the EU would only be able to claim benefits for a maximum of three months, down from six months, unless they have very clear job prospects. The government claimed this would save the taxpayer £500m over the next five years.

But in a sign all parties are now anxious to be seen as committed to cutting immigration, both Labour and Ukip attacked the prime minister for not going far enough to tackle the issue.

Yvette Cooper, the shadow home secretary, said: "It's almost a year and a half since Labour called for benefit restrictions on new migrants. In that time we've had reannouncement after reannouncement from the Tories, but little in the way of firm action.

"Behind the rhetoric the true picture of this government on immigration is one of failure, with net migration going up, despite David Cameron's promise to get it down to the tens of thousands."

Cameron has increased his rhetoric against immigration over the past year in an apparent effort to win back voters from Ukip and placate the right of his party. However, the government can do little to stop EU immigration because of free movement rules, meaning it can only embark on repeated efforts to tighten benefits for new arrivals.

The announcement was dismissed as window dressing by Labour MP Angela Smith, and "vacuous and cynical posturing" by Steven Woolfe, a Ukip immigration spokesman.

Estimates by the BBC's World at One also suggested that fewer than 10,000 people would be affected by the changes, although this was rejected by Iain Duncan Smith, the work and pensions secretary, who had to admit he did not know the actual figure.

Amid criticism of the announcement, Cameron gave an interview to the BBC threatening illegal immigrants with deportation.

"When we find you, and we will find you, we'll make sure you are sent back to the country you came from," he said.

"We are also doing more today to close down bogus student colleges. We've already closed many of them and we will close down more. It's right that the British people know that we have a fair immigration system that says to people: if you're here illegally, you should go home.

"What we're saying is that our changes today will save the British taxpayer half a billion pounds over the next five years, so that is a significant saving. But let's be clear, some people are coming here to work, some people are coming here to claim and some people are coming here pretending to be students.

"I have a very clear approach to this, which is that if you don't have a right to be here, you will be sent home, you shouldn't be here. People want to know that we have a fair, legal migration system, but in terms of illegal migration, we will find you, we will send you home."

You will do Nothing just as I expect our government to do very little to stop what is happening..

This matter has been known about for far too long and the French are the worst offenders by letting them in and pass through France.

Those pathetic wire fences were never any good - They should have been electrified when first erected, to the same as the French Railway track Voltage and and warning signs erected saying
*Do Not Touch The Fencing or You Will Die*
in English, Russian, French, German Swahili Urdu and Arabic.

That is what some of us here in Thanet think because for years they find their way here at night past the Goodwin Sands and come in at Pegwell Bay just south of Ramsgate so they can dodge customs and the law.

Cameron talking through his wig. England doesn't have the money to ship them all back. Neither does their homelands. Sure the cash could be scrapped up for a few dozen plane fulls. After that fuel and pilot/air crew and maintenance/security costs would be a big issue. Not to mention a minor problem (which the US has hit more than once when it tried such a policy), what do you do when the alleged country of origination refuses to accept them (or even give approval to land the plane)?

Face it, once an illegal alien arrives, or a self identified refugee, unless you are willing to just execute them, you are stuck with them.

The British public strongly support the UK sending troops to northern France to stop migrants entering the channel tunnel and ferries, according to a new poll.

A survey by YouGov found that people support deploying the British Army to Calais by an overwhelming margin of 67 per cent to 19 per cent.

“So we’ll take a radical step; we’ll make illegal working a criminal offence in its own right."

His pledge comes as new official figures released today are expected to show another huge influx of migrants well above the Government's target.

In the last set of quarterly data published by the Office for National Statistics last February, annual net migration hit a massive 298,000.

The truth is it has been too easy to work illegally and employ illegal workers here
David Cameron
Ministers are braced for fresh confirmation today that the population surge is continuing at the same rate, much higher than Mr Cameron’s aim of annual net migration of “tens of thousands.”

In his speech in central London today, the Prime Minister will insist that controlled migration is a key part of his plan for building a stronger "one-nation" society.

“A strong country isn’t one that pulls up the drawbridge, it is one that controls immigration," he will say.

“If you have uncontrolled immigration, you have uncontrolled pressure on public services. And that is a basic issue of fairness."

Under the proposed new law, wages paid to illegal migrants by gang bosses and other employers will be regarded as "proceeds of crime" that can be seized by police, border guards and courts.

Downing Street officials said the measure has been drawn up to close a loophole in current rules that mean only employers of illegal migrants can be prosecuted for illegal working and not the employees themselves.

Migrants caught working illegally will swift deportation, officials said.

Mr Cameron will say: “Dealing with those who shouldn’t be here starts with making Britain a less attractive place to come and work illegally.”

He will vow that the proposal will mean that "wages paid to illegal migrants will be seized as proceeds of crime."

"So if you’re involved in illegal working – employer or employee – you’re breaking the law," the Prime Minister will say.

The Home Office and Border Agency are determined to deal "with those who shouldn’t be here by rooting out illegal immigrants and bolstering deportations,” he will add.

And he will say that immigration and labour market rules need to be reformed "so we reduce the demand for skilled migrant labour and crack down on the exploitation of unskilled workers." "That starts with making Britain a less attractive place to come and work illegally," the Prime Minister will tell his audience.

“And we’re going to get far better at training our own people to fill these gaps from overseas."

A new immigration bill will be a centrepiece of next week's Queen's Speech to Parliament, the Prime minister will say.

“Our one-nation approach will be tougher, fairer and faster.

"With this Immigration Bill, and our wider action, we will put an end to houses packed full of illegal workers; stop illegal migrants stalling deportation; give British people the skills to do the jobs Britain needs.

Do you really believe that what you think “we” own to your country because of illegal immigrants WILL get you out of your financial problems???

The illegal immigrants’ issues have two sides at least:

Cost and benefit.

Have you ever read a scientific paper about them: both?
If you have, place the reference here, please.

Show me with numbers from a reliable source that the illegal immigrants in your country cost more than the benefits you get from them.
