With the Irish Navy reporting the ongoing tragedy of refugees and migrants drowning in the Mediterranean.

Should Ireland adopt a leading role and welcome more migrants and Refugees into the country?

Feel free to discuss.

id have to disagree with some members in saying ireland is a rich country. compared to where these migrants are coming from, probably yes but we re not rich in the way people think. we re actually rich in debt like most countries on this planet. unfortunately like most other countries, our priority is to serve these debts than actually use our money to do more important things like trying to deal with this migrant problem properly. since this is the way the world behaves, unfortunately more people will die during this process.

Just maybe if the west stopped bombing the middle east and north Africa and stopped giving brown envelopes to their corrupt politicians, Africa may not be in the mess it is in......

Why should Ireland get involved?
Let the French, Brits and Dutch deal with
the crap they created themselves.

Just heard Roisin Shortall say on TV3 that there are 1000 children in B&B's and hotels tonight, can't remember whether she said in Dublin alone.

You want to take in more migrants?????

Ireland is a wealthy country?????

There is plenty of accommodation for more migrants????

stanley8m:

My suggestion is to focus the economy of the poorer regions on labour intensive, environmentally friendly organic farming.

This would accommodate population growth and provide work for more immigrants.

I am not talking about millions either. but it would nice if we could accommodate some and allow the large industrial nations to take the bigger share.

Do you actually think if Ireland takes in migrants that the Government will go along with your organic farming idea?

Could they then not be accused of discrimination, forced labour and not allowing immigrants the rights of other citizens to live elsewhere?

How many though Stanley? Would you put a limit? or whoever turns up gets in if they have a genuine asylum application?

I am not being facetious it is a very serious issue, in normal circumstances housing, infrastructure etc requires years of planning and implementation so a sudden influx of more migrants in a country with a housing shortage would put serious strain on the things and given we are broke as a nation, where would the money come from?

Ireland has not bombed any country or imposed debt on any country. It has in the past donated a .7? % of GDP? to overseas aid and the Irish people have donated money over the years to many causes.

Ireland has had a lot of private banking debt imposed on us thanks to our ludicrous bank guarantee which prevents mainly French and German banks losing out. Ireland has had private losses of banks imposed on it's State thanks to our European neighbours who were only too happy to go along with something to save their own banks and taxpayers that should never have happened in the first place.

ah we aint bombing but we re errr emm 'helping the cause' just so we can get a few jobs here! we aint whiter than white im afraid. sure i use to work for a company that makes products for the american military, right here in good ould ireland. im sure theres plenty of businesses in ireland doing the same thing.

ah our banking system problems are a lot bigger than just france and germany. id highly recommend checking out american economist ellen brown:

shes the best ive found so far with explaining all this mess, but to be honest i think we re both singing from a similar hymn sheet
