annaroach: Are you the compliant type or the ,"i'll do whatever i want kind.

Do you litter or bin, allow dog to fowl or bin, put gum on the ground or bin, recycle or not, exceed the speed limit, when you think you might get away with it, or stick to the limit

Just some of my pet hates/ dislikes there, laws are there for our good
in these areas, do you think we should all be compliant?
So many are not, throwing waste out of car windows, , nappies food waste etc, shocking behaviour!, does this make your blood boil as well , lol

As an ex litter warden, i would never litter(could u imagine the local headlines lol) can't understand why people destroy this beautiful country we live in.

Kohlberg's stages of moral development is an interesting framework to view this question. In the pre-conventional stage, a person's morals are dictated by "whether you think you might get away with it". Thankfully once educated on matters such as littering, most people pass the pre-conventional level and move to the conventional level of moral developments.
It is in the conventional level that most people in society find themselves. It is in stage 4 that law and order morality exists. However at this level, people's morality is dictated from above powers. People are necessarily still sheep. The question of right and wrong is dictated to people. We have to question this mind-set at times. Laws can be passed that are discriminatory to certain groupings...should we abide by these and listen to central authority about how we should follow these.
The final stage is the post-conventional stage. This is where people begin to look at morality above the law. People who stay in stage 4 will usually look at these lawbreakers and place them in a pre-conventional level of morality and beat them with a stick. However, these law-breakers of the post-conventional level are usually the ones who change society for the better. People like Martin Luther King Jnr and Gandhi can be placed in this grouping. For them morality and law must be firmly grounded in justice.
So laws are not always for our good and non-compliance must sometimes be an option.
Just a theoretical framework though, many issues and arguments against it....

I agree that laws are not always for our good.
some that i have mentioned , however, are.

Breaking the speed limit, can cause serious accidents and death.
Or sometimes a faith worse than death.
People, mainly children coming in contact with dog litter can become sick and get eye disease.
Gum on the pavement is unsightly and has to be removed at enormous cost, which has to be paid for by ,yes, none other than the taxpayer.

So i think it is our civic duty to make sure that we abide by these laws ,
for the good of all in our communities.
