So why dont i post something then
Ive been trying the last few months or so on and off.
To trace my Nana's aboriginal past , which at 51 was a bit of a shock .
Why it was kept a secret I have no idea ,but i would say way back it was a shame .
So what i have learnt so far
1 no fathers name on my nanas birth certificate
2 my great nana was known by three different first names . go figure
3 my Dad didnt know much of is mums family started out he knew about two sisters and a brother who drowned at a young age . friend traced a lady who might be my great nana who got married and had like 6 kids . Dad last time i asked thought there may have been more kids
4 My great nana married a few months after my nana was born she never took her step fathers name interesting.
5 my fathers fathers name i can trace all the way back to 1800 Ireland and he was transported to aussie on one of two convict ships .
Now Nana's maiden name is an aboriginal family name in Queensland and she was born in Broken hill New South Wales .
So just something to mill over I just sent an Email to what is Link up in Adelaide see if they can help .
And the last lady i dated from here was aboriginal and her granny was born in a town up the road from broken hill we used to joke we may have been related
