This afternoon news reported and warned everyone to take cover as (pause for dramatic effect.............) a 'SUPERCELL!' was fast approaching.
As I was in my car travelling west from Brisbane, I could see a large very black cloud to the west. It was moving fast and dumped some heavy rain with a few very small hail stones for about ten minutes. (The hail lasting about 1 minute). There was a bit of water run off on the roads and a few pools of water lying on the road etc. as you would expect but that was it.
When I was a kid we would have said we had a thunderstorm this afternoon but not a very severe one.
Maybe it was worse in other areas and I was lucky to miss it. I can't be sure but does it really have to be reported everytime there's a storm coming that there's a 'SUPERCELL!'
Could we be setting ourselves up for a case of "The boy who cried wolf?"
