Education, knowledge and technology extraction are the fundamental reasons why China props up the West. Once they outstrip us by every measure my concern would be a China which walls itself off from the world, taking the brightest minds and the engine of the economy with it.

It was once published on the Time Magazine that one of the fastest growing country in the planet when it comes to economic power is China, and of course, that is because like I said once: The major retailer "Walmart" market all their products and it was reported that for every single store in the US, it generates at least $200,000 a day. That is a lot of money..
Our vulnerability, is our electoral process.
We might need to ask ourselves how much influence china has over the likes of Walmart, who's interest Walmart money is really serving as a result of that influence, and how much of that type of money/influence we want to allow in our electoral process through "corporate" donations.
We also should consider that when push comes to shove, how many US companies who've moved manufacturing to China, will try to influence through elections US/Chinese policy because they'll go under if relations deteriorate.
Corporate campaign contributions are an open a back door
at the White House any interest/influence can walk through,
for a price.

I am inclined to believe that money talks and if they do push such influence on certain policies, well we're in for a big play on corruption. Worse than staging a war.
Anyways if it helps I don't patronize Walmart because of lack of good ethics. Imagine how many employees lacking health insurance.

On your note, it is very interesting how we just print all the monies without any value and equation to solid assets anymore. But interestingly neither is the value of the money have been inflated. Standing army conventional all out war? China would indeed be FORMIDABLE! ALL OUT WAR unleashing nuclear arsenals? China versus the UK....China versus France....both would be fair fights.....but versus the USA or Russia? China's arsenal is not even close! Between Russia and the US if I remember correctly they have nearly 15,000 of the 18000 planetary warheads,...and Russia I think has 2 or 3 hundred more than the USA. China with its massive population and apparent sabre-rattling as of late sure do LOOK scary,....but Russia and the USA are the REAL powers on this planet,....when push comes to shove in warfare,....economy becomes a very secondary factor if ALL OUT WAR breaks out.....both Russia and the USA have amazing armament ready to go,....just waiting,....it doesn't have to be constructed or financed,.....and rest assured, China is aware of this and just playing "catch-up".
