I think it's best to forgive otherwise the anger just eats away at us. But we shouldn't always forget because we learn from our mistakes and the mistakes of others (if we are smart). We can't forget anyway our brains won't let us. the expression forgive and forget really does not mean to literally forget...it means to let go of anger and vengefulness.
Some one might push you to forgive or forget because they want the comfort of being forgiven or they want to continue their relationship with you
