serene56: Is it not possible for old members to post threads if they aren't happy with current content?Or to encourage new members by replying on threads that they've posted?Or leave the site if they're over it rather than being miserable and deterring new members and their input?

LOL! Yes it is,....thread posted!wink And whenever I see the opportunity to join into a fun (or sometimes serious), I do. Was just reminiscing like the old fart that I am!

Forums, as is life, tend to be cyclical.....sometimes silly, sometimes serious, sometimes sensual, sometimes sarcastic,...I was just reminiscing of when I first joined,....cheers

MikeD12: I agree - CS has become like a political battlefield and open war zone.
A good while back a few of us set up the CS Flying school for banter, on the UK forums, but it was hi-jacked and personalised warfare declared by a nasty minority who hijacked other threads, got people removed by insinuation and no reason, never understood the humour and made life unpleasant for all and sundry.

The ex No 1 is a qualified Pilot, now married to someone he met on CS, and as soon as I get confirmation that I am fixed up, I will be off permanently too.

cheers I truly hope people do NOT think my thread was posted to BASH the present CS! I was just reflecting back to when I first joined and would become fun and silly in the Canadian forums, venture over to OZ/Kiwi and realize they are even crazier than Canucks,....stroll over to the UK forums, and then totally screw up by introducing myself as a fellow Commonwealther to someone from Ireland!rolling on the floor laughing

I too met the love of my life on here,....back in the day,....but still venture into the halls,....for it still is and can be fun! Yes, every once in awhile I will venture into a serious thread,....my only, and I repeat, only complaint is there seems to be a lack of balance between fun threads and serious threads,....imho....CS is still a great site, a great place to meet people, some who I have met in person, and enter some banter....

serene56: Ironic that you should complain Moose when you ended up with one of the most lovely, intelligent, friendly and delightful women that have ever graced this site

Ok I'm gonna be serious now and say what I really think..

Reminiscing about the 'good ol days' is not supportive of, nor respectful toward, new members.

Yes there's been an increase in political/religious threads of late, which some choose to partake in, but, in addition, I'm sure many of us who have been here for a while are enjoying seeing new members join in forum discussions, creating new threads and adding fresh insights.

Bring it on, I say

Hey Cin....I was NOT complaining,....only reminiscing,.....then again,...LG doesn't come on here anymore because she simply doesn't find it fun anymore,....

I certainly meant no disrespect towards ANY member,....I was just pointing out that in the past the forums tended to have less "serious" posts, were less argumentative......I too enjoy fresh insights and new posts, but also like to have a bit of fun as well. I am a member of other forums, that are far, far, more serious (but do indeed deal with many of the debates posted here to CS). I enjoy them for the intellectual stimulation AND the fact that they are BHIGHLY moderated.....its as if the mods are ACTUALLY watching and reading! LOL!

Alas, my parents used to reminisce a great deal as well.....for they had to walk to school 10 miles one way each day, and both trips were uphill,....and from that, I drew respect and a wry sense of humour! It really has little to do with respect,...moreover, it is just the way old farts like myself supply humour to the newer crowd,.....now, if you will excuse me,...I must re-listen to my series of motivational 8-track tapes,....grin hug

Babettefr: It's amazing to observe how humans can be so personal at times.
We dragged our feet and stepped into a vast world like CS, to the internet world, known to be without barriers,,, reading people from all the hemisphere and expect them to fit what we personally appreciate, why not just fit into the baking pan and just discretely brush away the parts that is in excess.,,,,????

I didn't ONCE comment on anyone's personal hygiene and aroma! I expect NO ONE to meet my appreciation levels,....nor do I brush away any excess,....was just being sentimental.....lol,....

Yup,,, that's exactly what i mean,, too personal, it's because you personally appreciate such things that you should spread it out for a forced public consumption, and when i say a baking pan, i mean a clean baking pan. Strange at times how humans lost the good sense of seeing things as it is.

A comment that was directed to you was in another tone,, the one that you picked up was intended for serene,,,

Yeah, he did, but she didn't do too bad either, and thankfully people stay in touch off the site. grin

I didn't take it in the regard of things being that much worse on here than they used to be. Although there is some truth to that, I think it's more that it's so much slower on here, less members participating, and possibly more PC, that the numpties and religious/political threads, as well as the few trolls just simply stick out more.

I actually miss a few of the peep's that were deemed to be trolls, they added life to the site, and presented a different point of view. devil

I've tried inviting new members to join in the forums, many times, but it doesn't seem to work. Either they read the forums and think to themselves, "no effin' way", or it's just not their thing. No idea, but they aren't jumping in with their opinions, comments, questions, or anything else.

Reminiscing isn't bad in and of itself, it's comparing what was to what is that can cause strife, discord, and possibly alienate new members. I don't see that as being the case, just having fond memories of what this forum used to be. I'm not sure it'll ever be what it was again, but I'm positive it'll never be the same. Too many have left, for innumerous reasons, and many have nothing to do with the site or the forums. It could be similar, and just as enjoyable, but that takes effort, new members, and people not chasing off anyone that appears to be "different", or that doesn't agree with the status quo.

2intrigued: You really would have enjoyed yourself if you were here then. If I had joined within the past year, I'd probably do a runner.
Same here Lillie...basically here for pleasant banter and sharing some humour which appears to be almost non existent. There's still a few good folks around though and that's what keeps me going too.

Hi Trigs
So true, I've been on here on and off for two years, and most of the time still feel like running! As for your last remark, exactly the reason why I still spend time here (albeit cameo appearances)
