pedro27: they must of being very clever to take over a lot of the world
they populated the ships with stolen citizens.
there ships were build for harder weather then Mediterranean countries.
I think English did so good due to the navy. Maybe offered good military careers to high and low profiles.
They got a wider high and middle class, so more of the population could read and write.
There was a military dominion everywhere. with a well developed military rule.
the class system helped to divide. and even incorporate locals or native leaders.
In colonies they shared on a capitalistic way the spoils of a territory. and humans can treat/squeeze fellow humans very bad.
Sense of adventure and exploration, but that could be the reading and writing bit again.
Maybe the religious leadership of combining queen and pope gave a certain freedom and endeavor.
Clever? maybe they just got better food because nobody was burning and pillaging the peasants fields?? or they were better and claiming taxes :-)
