I noticed lately that almost all discussion about religion tends to go askew and I think because we only associate religion to the bad things it fosters.
There is a very good side of having religion. With due respect to those who are atheist, this is not for you to get criticized for not having one. Rather with staggering numbers of followers on 6 major different religions (or possibly more), there has got to be a great reasons why we, the majority, believe in such an organization.
Can you site some reasons why we have a religion? What it does to you?
I was brought up by a very loving and religious parents. I learned all the good and great things about God. How we should and must always do good because we would be punished if we didn't.
As I grew older, I realized there is nothing wrong with that teaching, except the punishment was not logical. I found out, though, that it is our responsibility to account all actions we do, with or without religion. My take is, religion is good for unifying people, supporting each other and I have to admit, my Catholic church, St. Vincent De Paul Society, feed a lot of people everyday, (I used to volunteer and ) for as long as I can remember.

Tru, I love all that is associated with this celebration. The gift giving, the decoration, the parties.
A very comforting reason Obs. Indeed, when 9/11 happened, my church which was empty most of the time, got overflowed for the next months or so after that.

Thanks all for your reads and comments (if any).
I think people are more likely to be religious when they grow up among fear mongering and lies..
With or without religion, good people can behave well and bad people can do evil; but for good people to do evil — that takes religion.. -Steven Weinberg. Conference on Cosmic Design
I used to see spirituality in religious drinking in my college years when religion was liberated by an old acquaintance who brought his bilingual coyote in to devotional classes during the ten year war between woody and bo.

Lind There are good people who have religion but like most people sometimes they hide in plain sight...look at those who choose a profession that suggests saintliness...
