guysimple: Politics.. There are many women involving in politics too....
Not enough here.
They are setting a gender quota on the main parties for the next general election. They have to have 30% on their cards. This still means 70% men, but it is still a start. I am not particularly in favour of quotas, but if it that what it takes to force them, then it might do some good.

mollybaby: I am just watching an investigative journalism programme about corrupt local politicians.
They are not men of their word
They of course have their own self interests and agendas at heart ... before that of their constituents. Australian Politicians are no different in this respect ...

It was a sting operation .
An undercover reporter went to them for information and help in setting up a company in their constituencies.
The councillors asked for money for themselves, both covertly and very overtly, which is totally against the law.

It shouldn't really be a question of gender quotas. My thinking is that it should be based on the BEST PERSON for the job, whatever the gender

I agree with you.
But unfortunately it is a male-dominated area and seemingly very difficult to break into if you are not one of the boys. That is why they feel they need a gender quota for a while at least. People can still vote for whoever they want afterwards though.

Nothing surprises me any more when it comes to Politicians. We often hear in Australia where politicians have gone on lavish holidays and spending sprees with the courtesy of a Public funded Credit Card. When found out, they then say they will stop the loopholes in the system to address this issue. But up till now, they still can't seem to (or want to) do so however

Our whole economy collapsed because of corruption and greed.
We will be paying back for generations.
Yet, corruption hasn't been tackled at grassroot level.

It's frustrating.
And no doubt future generations having to shoulder the burden in the years ahead... like i guess we have been continuing to pay for past generations mis-expenditures as well

Yes we are. But they should be improving the standards at this stage. No excuses.
guysimple: How common to hear this line in your country??
Actually, the phrase in my country is "Man of his word"
My last boyfriend made three promises to me and didn't keep on of them
When you know a man whether in a personal relationship or in business, it makes a world of difference in the relationship if you know him to be a man of his word.
