Five Female Candidates Elected In Saudi Arabia, As Women Vote For The First Time
"At least five women have won seats in Saudi Arabia’s municipal polls, the country’s first-ever elections open to female voters and candidates, AP reported.
The female candidates were elected to three councils - two in Ihsaa governorate and one each in Tobouk and Mecca, as votes were still being counted on Sunday, Al Jazeera reported.

Saudi Arabia is the last country in the world to open its ballots to women.
Officials say that 130,000 women registered to vote in Saturday’s election, although this still pales in comparison to the 1.35 million men in the country who registered to vote, according to the BBC.
It is also the first time female candidates have been able to stand for election, with 978 women alongside 5,938 men vying for 284 seats. This represents two thirds of the kingdom’s councils."
The reason the media are using the name Daesh is because that is a derogatory term unlike Islamic State, as it could be argued they are neither Islamic or a State.
I also heard a report last week about reports coming out of Iran claiming they were considering reviewing some of the guidance taken from the Koran. They are perhaps realising that many interpretations of the Koran are too archaic and really don't fit with 21st century living.
For instance, the term Fatwa can be interpreted in different ways. There is one interpretation where when a Fatwa is issued it can be carried out in a none violent way, this was one of the terms under consideration for review. It's perhaps a small step, but it could gather some momentum. It's the misinterpretation of the Koran by the religious leaders and the guidance set down by them that's creating so many divisions in today's society and the sooner this is addressed and modified, the better...imo.

That's what I've been hoping for in so long a time Bod, to revise those interpretations. Just like the Leviticus and other interpretation I log the old testament.
Perhaps this is a monumental step to a peaceful world.

I think DAESH means exactly IS of Iraq and something in Arabic.

I think the only way forward is for the voice of Moderate Muslims to ring out loud and clear denouncing those who use the religion to spread fear and hatred around the world...much like the guy who shouted the words, "You ain't no Muslim Bro." to the recent lone 'terrorist' attack on the London Underground.

Good the hear the news you mentioned
Just googled it...
Depending on how it is conjugated in Arabic, the word can mean "to trample down and crush." But it can also mean "a bigot." ISIS has reportedly threatened to cut out the tongues of anyone it hears using the term.
"It's a derogatory term and not someting people should use even if you dislike them," said Evan Kohlmann, a national security analyst at Flashpoint and a contributor to NBC News. "It would be like referring to Germans as 'Huns.'"

I heard Douglas Murrey say it means exactly the same as IS, if he is wrong, then I got it wrong too
I completely agree with you that this whole mess is in the hands of moderate Muslims to resolve
I'll believe it,both the Iranian and the Saudi-Thaw when I see some of the active results!
Iman al-Mashrawi, a pediatric surgeon in Riyadh, said she had been persuaded to vote by a friend who was running for office. "We are mothers, teachers, doctors. We are everywhere in our country the same as any man," she said.
For now, according to some of the women voting on Saturday, apart from the symbolic nature of casting a ballot, their hopes for change resulting from their votes are limited to purely local issues.
"I believe women want more parks, libraries for their children, health and fitness facilities for women. And just to be part of the decision," said Ahmed, the physiotherapist.

What we call ourselves and what others call us has a lot to do with how they see us . In June last year they changed their name to IS from ISIL . Nobody wants to give them credit for holding land as it invites problems , ha , who the hell do western leaders think hold and run great slabs of Iraq and Syria . By the looks they have a system that runs it better than any post Saddam government . Resupply seems to be no problem , simply fire a shot over some western trained arab army and load the goodies onto brand new Hilux's paid for by Obama .
I hate to say this Ooby Dooby.... but do you really think that it matters to the Royal Saud family or another of the Gulf States that five women were elected to low level positions in country? w Do you think that any of these women after today and during their term in office will ever get any real authority or major projects? Think we will ever hear of them again after today's election?
Look am much more impressed by a group of Syrian Christian Women that are fighting ISIL. These 50 women have placed themselves between ISIL and their families. They are not fleeing from Syria.....as are millions of Sunni are. But saying this is life or death. US or ISIL....and laying it all on the line. Just think what happens to one if she captured by ISIL.
Hollywood should do a movie of these Christian women. But Hollywood is to buzy depicting Muslim being terrorized in the world by Christian Islamophobia. Or doing something on 5 Suadi women elected to office.
Think Obama will ever say a word about these Christian Syrian female soldiers? He would not touch them with 10 foot pole .... it would be a insult his Muslim friends. And a insult to the 10,000 Syrians that have fled the country.

It's 20 women, not 5 women and it was an 80% turnout. It's a start and a damn good one. Down playing this accomplishment by women in the Mideast is no different from down playing the accomplishment by women in the United States in 1920 with the ratification of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution granting women the right to vote.
It's kinda funny that Obama owns you and you don't even know it. He is stuck in your head and he's all you think of.
34 Islamic states form anti-terror bloc Saudi Arabia has announced the formation of a 34-state Islamic military coalition to combat terrorism, according to a joint statement published by state news agency SPA. "The countries here mentioned have decided on the formation of a military alliance led by Saudi Arabia to fight terrorism, with a joint operations centre based in Riyadh to co-ordinate and support military operations,"

OK make a 100 women, Ooby. The Saudi will bury them so far down in the gov't That you will never hear from them again. Here is why?
Suadi don't have a Constitution...no freedom of speech and press, Ooby. It is Monarchy....before you get to any of these 'elected'... the Royal family has a 150 member Consultative Council....all appointed by the Royal family.
Hey I just toss in a thought on Obama....for old time sake at this point. Did you see were his approvals just sank to 43% after San Bernardito? He keep losing 3 point a month.....by January of 2016 he will be at a +7......
The guys waving the black and white flags...Mr. Putin....the Chinese....the North Koreans.....all want him to sink below 10 in approvals.....Me?
Sometime I will share with you, how I helped to get him reelected in 2012. So I don't wish to see his presidency fail.....

The L in ISIL stands for Levant, of which the state of Israel is a part. That´s why it was changed to ISIS and then IS because ISIS stands for Israeli Secret Intelligence Service. Daesh is an artificial entity I read in an article written by Thierry Meyssan.
Trouble is Thierry Meyssan is a CIA Fake according to Fintan Dunne, so while liars do tell some truth to get people to believe everything they say, being a CIA Fake causes me to question what he wrote that the 911forum.org.uk published.
The main issue is that the US government created IS and funds it. This is documented. The US did this to depose Basher Al Assad from Syria.
