Did the rain flood your bunker ? rained here yesterday to inspite of the really bad drought , inch of rain 3 days ago as well . El nino in '97-98 took a while to get going so did the 82-83 one . This one will be here soon enough , best enjoy the rain while we can I guess . Big social cost on farmers / rural contractors , little towns . Not looking forward to it . And I don't mean that in a casual way .

While waiting to see my doctor recently, I became engrossed in a National Geographic from the early 70s.

What got me interested (there were no semi-naked women in it as some might expect) was the lengthy article raising concerns about "GLOBAL COOLING." Ocean and land mass temperatures had fallen by an average of 3 degrees Celsius over the previous 30 years. "Are we approaching another ICE AGE?" was the question.

The greenies are doomsaying about the 2 degree increase in temperature over the last 40 years.

I am curious about how the greenies are going to survive when we stop all of our manufacturing industries and coal/oil/nuclear power plants to stop global warming and we go into the next ICE AGE.

Greenies come very close to preaching genocide with their crap . Pushing agriculture back to the wheelbarrow , all be it a wooden one , will fix the obesity epidemic .

AND, responsible for stopping fuel reduction burning off.
Previously prudent Australian Rural Land Owners reduced the amount of fuel in the forests by burning off, however now people get to watch the sort of probably preventable type of furious bush fire witnessed over last couple of days Wye River and Separation Creek, near Lorne.
Appears the city slickers are quite happy to entertain themselves high on the pig while rural town after town burns to the ground

theres enough votes in small towns to make or brake governments if they wanted . Vegetation removal is not the whole answer as we all like shade . Lifestyler's getting jumpy Nelson area with forestry companies continuing to log in extreme heat , companys saying they have to keep logging because of economics , WOOF and up she goes Trev , 20 million of trees up in smoke . Learn that lesson in economics ya arseholes . You cannot fix stupid .

they can't operate in the forest once fire ban has been declared, likewise in Vic you can't bale hay or operate a tractor, welder once a ban for your area has been declared. But varies State to State

The consequences of an escaped fire can include loss of life and property. Penalties for inappropriate, negligent or reckless use of fire or equipment can be severe, including fines or imprisonment. Fire restrictions are actively enforced.

Fire restrictions are used to prevent bushfires. They apply to activities that may cause bushfire. Fire restrictions become more strict when the danger of bushfire increases.

Includes
(welding, grinding, apiary, catering, entertainment machinery, engines, chainsaws, motor-driven pumps, sawmilling, quarrying).

To find out what restrictions apply to you, see:

NSW

Total Fire Ban rules
No fires during a Total Fire BanA total fire ban means no fires out in the open. A total fire ban helps limit the potential of fires developing.
During a Total Fire Ban you cannot light, maintain or use a fire in the open, or to carry out any activity in the open that causes, or is likely to cause, a fire.
No general purpose hot works, such as welding or gas cutting can be done in the open.
The NSW RFS strongly recommends you reconsider activities such as such using a tractor or slashing, to help reduce the chance of a fire starting on your property. Under certain conditions, the NSW RFS may issue a Cease Harvest request.

SA

The following are for restrictions during the Fire Danger Season and on Total Fire Ban days. To find out what restrictions are in place in your area outside of these times, contact your local council.

QLD

Local Fire Bans are normally imposed over an entire local government area and prohibit the lighting of all or only certain types of fires, depending on the severity of the emergency. (Gas and electric barbecues may be used).

When fire bans are in place either as a local Fire Ban or during a State of Fire Emergency:

The lighting of fires in the declared fire ban areas are prohibited subject to any special conditions or exemptions
All open fires are prohibited;
All Permits to Light Fire issued in the designated area are cancelled.
Other special conditions (or exemptions) may be imposed.

We are not the only ones it seems:

Armed anti-government militiamen seize federal wildlife refuge in Oregon

The brewing standoff in the small rural town of Burns came after an estimated 300 people, including militia and local citizens, protested the prosecution of two local ranchers.
Dwight Hammond, 73, and Steven Hammond, 46, were to report to prison on Monday to face an additional four years after a judge ruled they had served too little time for setting fires that spread to government lands they leased to graze cattle.
The father and son argued they lit the fires to tackle invasive plants and prevent wildfires on their lands. The Hammonds have said the government has gradually tried to take away federal grazing rights, and through red tape and price hikes has made it difficult raise cattle.

universal emotion of governments is to hate farmers , if they ever push us back to the wheel barrow the same scum will blame us for the ensuing hunger .

In NSW we burnt off every year I was there, during winter local farmer (Fire Chief Doug) would light the bush along his boundary, and we'd all send one back, light line bracken then (only then) phone your neighbor tell him you had.
Done with feeling, and regard to the weather a slow cold burn would then wander along the ridges for a week or so, creep down into the gullies until the fire ran into damp areas...never a problem, the creatures had time to scamper to safety, soil was not baked, very little impact.
But that far to hard for academic townie clowns to comprehend.

Bush round here hasn't been burnt off since 2007, they flew a couple C130's past dropping fire starters into the wet gullies doh instead of burning along the ridges tops a year ago doh

Bushfires across Victoria have destroyed 139 homes since October, including 116 in Wye River and Separation Creek.

The Wye River-Jamieson Track fire has burned 2486 hectares in steep bushland, and is set to burn all summer.
