Question 1.....Were the Moriori the first recorded/noted by hearsay (tales) or is there archeological evidence of this?
Question 2.....Is there a possibility that another race was there before the Melanesian Moriori settled there?
The reason I ask is that in Australia, the Tasmanian Aborigines were not related to the mainland Aborigines but more to an earlier settler, possibly even Mungo Man who was here for many thousands of years before the current Aborigines.
