Another one in a long line of patriotic and civilised Americans, murdered for no good reason.
He wasn't completely without fault, and even hated by some, but still someone worthy of merit, and of an official holiday in the US.
He knew it was coming, yet didn't hide, but the nation, or rather politicos of the day, turned their back on him, leading to his eventual assassination.

It's happens enough that I keep it in mind when looking for politically driven progress. People with power like to keep it, and many of those people are willing to kill to do so.

To stand and fall beside all that failed him.
To hold and see all that wanted change
To know time was a movement more than a hand
To expire his worth

there must be tolerance
of picking the remnants of softness
to creating a leader
A push of stability
