Dreamcatcher99: What is something, anything, that you have tried only one time, that you vow NEVER to try again?
Okra or ladies' fingers or commonly known here as 'bendi' is one of favourites!!
It's such a versatile vegetable. May I know how was it prepared when you ate it? Lemme guess, you don't like it coz of its slimy texture inside?
Yes, you are absolutely correct. SLIIIIMMMMY! My mom prepared it years ago when I was young and it was boiled. All I remember was trying to keep it down as I ran for the restroom and BARELY made it in time.
Friskyone: I'm sorry, but after my experience, I will never give okra a 2nd chance! I would rather have all my hair pulled out of my scalp one strand at a time!
Then you have got to try, someone's else's okra cooking. Not to many people like okra though, including yourself. My brother hates okra.
Okra is an acquired taste that takes years to develop from childhood and those who have had it often on the dinner table from their youth, can eat it quite comfortably as a side dish.
Fried okra is a favorite for many here in these southern states and boiled okra is added to gumbo in Cajun cooking. And still, some really do like the boiled slimy okra by itself. I do like fried okra, but the one food that I avoid, is shark.
Ate raw shark once, chewed like rubber and flavorless without soy sauce, or other spices.

I love baby sharks!!! Ok, I might get bashed here but I grew up eating shark's fin. I know it's deplorable and I am trying to steer clear from this dish as much as possible especially in Chinese banquet dinner but it's soooooooo yummy!!

Just searched that one serving of shark fin, 216g contains: 7% protein, 11% iron, 2% calcium, 99 calories.

I lived in New Orleans for a few years and I love gumbo but I always clarified before I ate it. So many cajuns do add it to their recipe, you are correct.
I would try the shark before the okra even though I don't like fish/seafood either, lol!

I tried a vegetable named "okra" & I wish I never tried it and I also wish I could forget the horrible taste of it!
