I have never had any trouble with my accent when speaking to someone or on the phone. - The only trouble I have ever got and still get is from arrogant ignorant Northern males who moved down to Kent but call everyone with a Southern accent a Londoner or worse "F.. in Londoners.
They are not joking and dislike being ignored or any retaliatory comments about their inability to speak understandable English.

I agree but if you read what I said again, My opinions are based on personal experience here since late 1964 when I returned from Bristol (Bristol Siddeley Engines Filton) just before TSR2 was finally cancelled and apply to only those who moved here mainly from Yorkshire who feel the arrogant need to be blunt, confront us and start inane arguments.
I used to go to England each year for work, it always amazed me how Liverpool and Manchester are not very far away from each other, but they talk completely differently. And most often havent actually been to the other place. But yet, would always ask- did you get mugged or stabbed in...

My accent gets me anywhere as people just love it. Do me it does not matter, as long as I am understood, who cares if I have this accent or not. Languages do not depend on accents, but on a clear and understanable spoken way.

Brilliant I agree if we all sounded the same how boring would that be.
In the North East which was all about mining each mining village had slight different accent and I thought it great.
I don't think that accents or dialects count - it's whatever's said that is important.
