TheRedSquirrel87: Just like the baby boomers. Greedy, selfish and wasteful. It does make sense for the first generation of wealth to be scumbags; Class and taste take time to develop, it never was just about money.

Unfortunately for the West, however, China still has the reserve of a billion peasants. When this Chinese middle class becomes too big for its own boots the nation will recruit fresh peasants. It'll be a long time yet before China falls apart through decadence.

It does make one wonder how long it does take for a people to have money before they develop the style to handle being rich. All the nobility were at one time barbarian warlords, but somewhere along the line the barbarian warlords became cultured. Money comes first and then civilisation follows(eventually).

pat8lanips: Its a double edged sword. Nobody wants to waste food, but if you give it to the unwashed masses they'll simply wait at the exact spot for the next handout. And be very antisocial if its not to their liking or a bit late.

I'm talking from the source,,
In France, not just anybody could recieve such items not unless you have a card, and each card holder is strictly systimically controlled/updated as to their financial resources and situations.

All charitable institutions are under strict control,, to prevent leaks and unauthorized distribution. You must be aware that it's not the interest of the supermarkets that these food items would be in the access of just anybody.

There are somehow who could sneak in,, but it's negligible,, receiving such charity is not a situation that many would be delighted to be in such condition,, even videos are discouraged to protect the privacy of the members,,

Mandating supermarkets to donate to the poor sounds like noblesse oblige to me. It's nobility. But most of the nouveau riche are still in the barbarian warlord mode who would ruthlessly gorge on his feast and leave what's left to rot.

TheRedSquirrel87: Not that I'm saying that it's wrong to clamp down on supermarket waste and help the poor. What is wrong is expecting supermarkets to go to this effort when you yourself don't do anything for anyone. Unless you regularly volunteer for charity I don't believe you have any right to expect the supermarkets to help the poor.

This help the poor but not if it costs me anything attitude of the boomers is part of the reason for the debt. They introduced a range of social welfare programs but refused to pay the tax for them resulting in the bankruptcy of society.

rolling on the floor laughing how do you ever come up with this crud? Europe must really Be changing radically due to youth sponsored political correctness efforts.

I don't have any idea on how UK managed those highly perishable products? In France almost all supermarkets have their own cafétérias that could cater to their employees , some truckers, and some construction workers on the nearby perimeter..prices are affordables to this particular clientèle without sacrificing the quality but to avoid waste/loss and some shoppers as well as those who resides nearby are part of the clients.

There's a system going on now...for those foods items with a limited date of validity, consumable w/in 3 days... they are sold at a discounted price which is quite economical a nombrous family or for weekends with friends....
