Yeppers, I have done the same Lillie. Some folks manage to make it work with a second chance but it depends on how serious of an issue it was the first time around and if it's something that can be "fixed".

I keep in contact with my exes as I am friends with them.
Once a certain time has passed, giving you both time to move on, I have no problems being friendly with them.

Present, future, past..when past is attained there can no longer be any present or future..past perfect is hard to conjugate...

Lilith, for me personally, I don't see any benefit in keeping in contact with exes....unless there are children involved....it's best for each of you to move on with your lives with a clear path.
Not all my break-ups were stressful....some were amiable partings...but we made a mutual decision to move on separately to make way for anyone new to enter our lives.
I applaud anyone who can maintain friendly contact, but it's not for me....I don't particularly want to know about their personal life after the split.
