thelad2007: friction fire lighting is bloody hard. been there done that. havent tried it in a while though


Did it work? I tried it after watching the Castaway scene years ago, I'd probably still be rubbing it today waiting for a spark laugh

na couldnt get it all, only got a bit of smouldering, it was very damp at the time. i was on a bushcraft course, some of the lads got a fire going by using this method. very impressive but a lot of hard work. havent tried it since. preparation, persistence and patience are important.

This is what I was referring to, but agree, Ray is far more impressive and a handier method to know in a bush situation.

Yeah, I can imagine how satisfying it would be if it worked. Used to try the old magnifying glass trick on a sunny day when we were kids too, needless to say that never worked either sigh

Yes they would be better off with new homes but as our government argue that funding is the issue not sure that's going to happen anytime soon, these would be cost effective and would provide shelter as a temporary means. Anything is better than sleeping on the streets, I wonder how many churches/monasteries would be willing to open their doors for a night, quite likely to hear "no room at the inn".

money and resources are there, our governments are just following fundamentally flawed economic theories and principles
