Every summer it happens again. 1200 phone calls to the police in our town of aprox. 106.000 inhabitants, to report that a dog is in distress.
When I have talked to people they tell me;
“ ! had the air-condition on” Duh how long do you think that last?
“ I would only be a few minutes” "Yeah I know as I was waiting for you"
“ I parked in the shade” That was a big help you think?

I see that people leave their windows open about 1-2 inches
believing that is enough. It is not enough!
What many don’t understand is that dogs do not breath through
their mouth but through their skin.
So what do you do when you get back in your car, yeah you open the windows and
or turn the AC on. WHY because it is to hot in the car.

People stand around a car watching the dog die, believe me I
would smash a window in myself.

Molly I believe it is ignorance really.
I saw once a young couple leaving two huge dogs in the car.
All the windows were open a few inches.
I stopped them and told them they could be in big trouble
as the SPCA was patrolling the parking lot. This is true and we are told that when we see a dog left in the car to phone them.
Question is; Is there time by the time you see this happening?

Oh we are from the US and we do this all the time they told me.
It ended that the girl went shopping alone and he took the dogs out.

Jimmy you are partly right........
I got my info from the animal rescue people.

Dogs breath through their nose and paws.....and skin, panting.

Dogs can succumb to heat stroke very quickly in warm and humid weather because the only way dogs releases heat is by panting and sweating through the foot pads and nose.

Are you sure you are a Canadian, at least live in Canada?
I know it is several days driving from Ontario but
British Columbia is that province all the way to the West.
Check your map it is on the end rolling on the floor laughing
The abbreviation for British Columbia is BC wave

I would release the dog and then set the car on fire.
