I've recently cut my working hours to 5 hours a day & stopped working in weekends. Now that I have more time on my hands, I was wondering what to do with the spare time . I not one for just lazing around and try & be as active as I can , playing golf , tennis , badminton. Etc.. So I would love to hear from folk who are retired or don't work to see how they fill their day.

serene56: Volunteering is a rewarding way to fill in spare time No doubt there are agencies in your area who can offer advice re what opportunities are available that may match your interests
Volunteering is something I would consider when I retire.. I was thinking more how to fill that void between 2pm till early evening, as most people I interact with, work full time . Btw.. I'm looking for a tennis or badminton partner if you're interested.

Whatever you do........... do not waste it here in the forums.
If you like to make things try model making, l make 1:14 scale trucks, bit expensive at times and better in the winter, make a scale boat and take it to the local park, buy yourself a cheap river cruiser, a 25 footer 4 beds diesel engine will be around 20,000, you are not far from a river where you are, relax with it, tinker with it, fish, go off Friday afternoon for trips and back sunday afternoon.

Seriously - I have always ha practical hobbies as they keep ones brain active especially if the subject chosen has multi areas that one can concentrate upon so one does not get bored. Mine also involve reading about the subjects so I have a very extensive technical library which I make available to others with similar interests.
The other advantage for instance - If you chose model making for example, it has an end product, so it can be put down and picked up later, so you will gradually see progress until it is completed.

Nice idea, but London isn't the best place for river cruisers.. I would however, consider a small fishing boat in the future when I retire abroad .

I think model making requires a lot of patience, of which I have little.
I've always been very active & need to interact with other humans .. I'm not really fond of my own company.

. London is great for river cruises, also the broads is not so far from you. My Daughter needs a gardener in Braintree that should keep you busy.

I think Truheart would be a better bet, besides, i don't even do my own garden. I have a little old Italian man who cleans my weeds & does other things that gardeners do.

about every other day you might consider writing letters and sending money to people in Greece so their retirees can continue to enjoy the good life they are accustomed to and like you have.

I think Jesus would have his work cut-out to feed all those mouths.
