I was brought up in an indifferent whanau "family"
Which enabled me to have a belonging.
Did not see a lot when I was young, yet as my years progressed, I realise the grounding.
To have a belonging is very importsnt.
In New Zealand is a rare sight to see a maori elderly in a "Home: they are looked upon as sacred and look after by the family whether it be the youngest.

Family was always important for me when my people were alive or living relatively close to each other. Unfortunate for me, my family members have either died or moved far away with little contact.
