Folks - As a change from the political and religious ranting on other threads this IMHO is a subject about such a revolutionary development in potential passenger transport apart from military to everyone. WIG = "Wing in Ground effect" was not a new phenomenon as pilots in WW1 and before, had experienced it a very low altitude.
But the development of a craft which relied upon WIG effect to travel faster over land and sea that any other type of transport was even more advanced and revolutionary than even the hovercraft.
So much so that the US secret services from 1965 after they first observed it from the spy planes over the USSR were so paranoid that they tried to suppress all knowledge or mention of its existence until the end of the cold war and after - Fact - Even possession of any drawings or articles on the subject in the UK was regarded by the US as a breach of security, upon which the London based Goons acted without informing our Police and that is Not Fiction.
HexagonKeySet: Indeed it is ... and look how poorly attended it is compared to the 'mushy rubbish sort of threads' we usually find here ! Congrats to the thread author / OP
Thank you HKS The fact is that when I first posted it last year it got no responses.

Well, the Russians were as paranoid as we were, including England
Living on an island and surrounded by water, an ekranoplan or some device liken to it would seem to be the ideal mode to possess . I'm also a retired engineer and have been looking into something similar for sport as well as quick island hopping .
I have come up with a slightly different version of ground effect machines and in small models it seems to work rather well . How it scales is not known and unfortunately at this time all my energy and money is being spent on my house . I estimate that in approximately 1 to 1 1/2 years to finish . I can at that time resume work on the machine as well as other ideas I have been wanting to try .
One problem not ever addresses is the status of the machine . Is it an aircraft ( pilots license required ), a boat ( captains license ? ) or hover craft ( special license ? ) . My idea is turn it into a boat ( simple licensing procedure ) by using a towing motor and using the machine as a glider . This simplifies the structure and the controles to operate it . You don't have to have a pilots license or even know how to fly to operate one . It also opens the opertunity for all types of motors to pull it . The tow motor actually never leaves the water so it can be classed as watercraft and can be much simpler to controle than flight systems .
The wing structure is also different than standard as well as more compact and higher lift at slower speeds . Stay tuned, you might read about it in a few years ( if I'm still around ) .

an absolute marvel - a fearsome and beautiful monster, for sure.
regarding WIG, Ekranoplan is one of the finest applications of aero/hydrodynamics and the principle is clear and usable. I think

SO - Have you seen these little beauty's - They have come a long way after the magnificent (IMO) KM, The LUN (Loon) and the A90 Orlyonok (Eaglet) as have other Russian developments since
Maybe you could get one if you can bypass the proposed US import trade blocking of Chinese goods !!

This looks like an sportive ekranoplane.
Not big compared with the plane-ships of the pics.
I think that industries could develop new models by using drone's last technology.

You can buy one now if you have the money . The EAA also list's plans for building one ( at least they use to ! ) . The project I'm looking into is a more simplified and hence much less expensive version . The pulling mode is also much simpler to operate than flight controles . I'm also not interested in building or selling them but if all works out well, then I'll let someone else do that part . I just want to enjoy life now and a type of ground effect machine or even a standard boat is in the not too distant future .
