So what do you think?

Our PM may bring back that system, I myself in hindsight thought it good.

Why because academic kids could go as far as they could, and us average kids went as far as we could, knowing we would learn more from work place and later in life.

This grinding all kids together made the best lag behind and the worst never to catch up.

If you have a chip on your shoulder then class it as a class thingy but I know for one it was not. My eldest and youngest sibling managed grammer school. My bro and myself secondary modern. We have all done well in our own fields.

Before the merit of the student counted for more and today which catchment area your parents can afford to live in matters more.

It's more about class now than it was before and modern comprehensives cemented dying in the class you were born.

Got to agree with that too but do you agree with going back to grammer schools, or can one not go backover and make a good job of it??

Getting rid of grammer schools never really worked imo,the kids were just graded into classes ie first year A,B,C classes the clever ones ended up in A...So little difference.

I agree but the difference being a kid who was bright in secondary modern his self esteam brought down as he was a b second in line not first.

It's GRAMMAR.

ffs.

Look at this...

The English don't know how to speak their own language.

Sorry, that should read 'the english dont no how to speak there own language'.

And don't remind me of those who use 'of' instead of 'have'. Which would you say... 'I have been to the pub', or 'I of been to the pub'? So why would you say 'I should of gone to the pub'?

The Germans I speak to regard the British as a nation of yobs. I find it hard to argue with them.

I've left Britain now. Still too many British where I live, but I'm at at least half way to escaping.

I was a brexit remainer. Now I'm a brexiteer. Go away. Float away into the Atlantic and merge with Trump's America. Stay focused on what you imagine you are, and disappear up your own backside. Let us get on with building something better than you're (not 'your') capable of imagining.

English is just my 3rd language and even in my 5th (Spanish), I still feel very nervous when seeing "native speakers" spell everything wrong in their own language...
Typos are different. Typos are keyboard related errors. Grammar, spelling, no interpunction, syntax & contextual fails however are a sign of cultural language decline.
Wasn't the grammar school, amongst other things, focussing on... language excellence ? confused
