Scared Straight should be for boys and girls over 10 years old, basically teenagers.
NOT for the little 5 year old boy who will be traumatized the rest of his life. That scene won't make that boy behave himself. It might have the opposite effect.

The program is for 'at risk' teenagers, so I highly doubt there'd be a five year old on it.

I have to wonder if they didn't have some of the inmates act that way on purpose. If it was for real they probably would of gotten those kids out of that area real quick like. Liability risk? Scared me though.

This program is a last ditch effort to try to save those kids from a life of crime and prison. I know its dramatic and even seems cruel but for some of those kids, it works, not on all, but on a significant portion.

I agree he looks too you but at 10 years old to age 12 YES, a good talking to in words of one syllable by someone bigger than the bullies is the best way unless they are using knives and guns. I would say the same for them but backed up by 7 days under 24hr strict military discipline and drill.
The military would sort a bully out in three Days by taking them on at unarmed combat in a ring to see what they are made of and make them comply with team work and respect for others - IF not the next stage the full 9 weeks of military training at a Boot Camp.

She said he IS 12 years old. Maybe she meant he looks ABOUT 12 years old. She made it a fact. All I'm asking is how does she know that.
I agree with you Mike that military school would be better for someone of a very young age unless they are using weapons.

Yeah, he's a smaller boy but IMO does look to be at least 10 years old. What some have to remember is that these kids come from some pretty bad environments and it takes things like this to get their attention. A soft hand won't do it. They have to be really scared to understand this is what they are facing if they don't change their ways. As I had stated before, I think some of it was staged. There is no way that these kids would be allowed in the prison under these circumstances if they were real. Prisons have strict rules to keep control of the environment.

There's this wonderful bit of kit that's useable on PC's these days. It's called 'Google'. I used it and found the episode in question.
No matter how you look upon it, there's no way on Earth that boy looks five, or that it would even be legal in any country to use him in that production.

Back when I was 15, I was smoking, partying, drinking, smoking weed, doing acid/mushrooms, committing random and senseless acts of vandalism. Never into violence or theft though fortunately.
Had me and my buddies been put through a program like this, life may have turned out differently than it did. Though I was never arrested or jailed, I was living the lifestyle that would eventually lead to it had I stayed on course.

Track, sweetie, I'm not saying this in a mean way, but with all those drugs you were doing. You probably didn't have the motivation to get up and go out to commit a crime.
