galrads: Do you know a victim? The Falling Man.....
I will tell why I will never forget, I was on 1 week holiday with my then partner at Ohakura beach house, went fishing then came back and ate the spoils and brought out the tequila, he went to bed awaiting, and I said "hey I'll put on the movies back then it was DVDs but it went straight to CNN...All I saw was a guy was reporting and a plane went smack into a building, maybe lost direction, I called out to my then partner, "something bads happening" and the rest is history, I saw and heard the interview's raw with firefighters running into tower one, the crash of bodies as they landed while being interviewed it was a still in time. It was awful.
I watched the preacher guy run in to the tower, then saw his lip body taken out. Dead. I saw people desperate, then choosing to jump.
Lookin4missright: I'm with Shinegirl But what's with the falling man i can't remember seeing that part?
The falling man is an iconic image that has been usef in the media.
Whilst this particular image suggests a certain serenity, the series of photos of his death suggests quite the opposite.
An investigation attempted to identify the man, and many families searching for loved ones and answers went through the ordeal.
In the end a mother suggested it was possibly her son, but refused to officially identify him, perhaps preferring privacy in her grief and that this image became representitive of a collective loss.
To the OP: please respect that some people may not wish to be reminded every year of their loss. Everyone has the right to grieve in their own way.

For me in NZ and to watch live. It is time to remember loss. Which ever way it holds grievance.
Living in the United States, such as Galrad does, we remember this every year as a reminder to us that we let our guard done and people from outside the U.S. came in and did such a horrific act, devastating our nation. We need to remember so as to not let it happen again. Now I know and understand that things of this nature have happened all over the world, not just to us. But, this was a major blow to our country that could of been prevented had we not had our heads under the sheets. While some of the pictures may seem offensive, and I admit, I don't want to see the man falling either, remembering this event is a necessity for us. That was the one day in my life that I feared living in the U.S. Nobody knew what was going on, where to go, where was safe, how things would end for our country. Our country shut down, literally. I've never seen that before or after 9/11. I don't ever want to experience it again. So we remember, open the wound a tad if I might say, so as to not put our heads back under the sheets again and something as tragic as this happen on our soil ever again.

Was crazy to see air traffic controllers terminate and suspend all flights right after the attack. This had a huge effect on various economies as well, especially in Las Vegas.
Some believe that the unprovoked attack on Pearl Harbor is the 2nd worst day in American history, 9/11 is the worst.

People who lost someone on that day aren't reading CS threads to be reminded that 3,000 people were murdered on Sept. 11, 2001.
They live the horror of that day every day, even 15 years later.
As with every other thread on here, if you don't want to know what is said in the thread don't read it.
I read yesterday that almost 700 people from New Jersey died in the attack. The people were identified by their cars that were never removed from train stations until the police checked license plates. All those people lived in NJ and worked in the towers.
Memorials are planned for this area of New Jersey this weekend. They aren't just for those who died. They are for those who are living. Those who didn't lose someone that day will show respect to those.
And by the way, pieces of façade of the towers are all over New Jersey in memorial parks with our flag and a memorial plaque.
This is a picture of one that is near where I live. Please click on the pic to see all of it. That piece of rusted steel was once one of the World Trade towers.

Yeah, we just shut down, scary as hell. My son was 2 years old at the time. All I wanted to do was go pick him up and go home to my place in the woods and watch TV to see what was happening. There are several big cities surrounding where I live and I didn't know if something was going to go down there next. None of us did. If I understood correctly, NO planes flew after that happened that day. Nothing flew in the air, nothing.
galrads: Americans remembering ... Carrie Bergonia of Pennsylvania looks over the name of her fiance, firefighter Joseph Ogren, at the 9/11 Memorial.
Being that I live close to NY I visited the Memorial Fountains where this woman is and let me tell you, it is the biggest funeral parlor I have ever seen.
All the names of the people who were on Flight 93 are together. That is the plane that crashed in Shankesville, PA. When I saw all their names together I thought of how hard they fought the terrorists to keep the plane from crashing in Washington.
I didn't know anyone whose name is on those granite walls but I did touch some of the names of the people on Flight 93 to show appreciation for what they did.
A sad day for the thousand of innocent people who lost their lives as a result of American foreign policy..
This incident just goes to show that no country is safe & meddling in other people's business can backfire catastrophically as was the case on the tragic day of 9/11..
Once again, my heart goes out to those who lost love ones & who suffered as a result.. Americans.. Love your country, hate your politicians .
