Really want some opinions please. How much time should a couple spend together to have a successful relationship. Could a couple spend only one night a week together for 5/6 hours and have a real relationship. Could it work long term if that is the only time you have together.

It all depends on the individuals.

Some people are happy with part-time relationships on a longterm basis.

Others need more.

if it suits both to only spend one night a week together, then you have a successful relationship.

if one wants more, then you don't.

Welcome back jo. I remember you from previous threads.

I remember your previous frustrations with relationships and asking for input on here.

In response to your above question, the best thing I can suggest is to simply let go of the need to define, delineate, quantify a relationship.
It isn't necessary and will give you more peace of mind.

Consider military personnel who spend months, years, away from their families. A relationship is not determined by how many hours two people spend together.

If the couple are happy with a part time relationship, then why not.!!!
Cracks start, when one of the partners, wants more time in the relationship, and the other partner refuse to give in.jmo.

So in that case could things work out if one person does not get what they need out of the relationship.

Now there's a question which asks nothing. I really don't know how to answer it, there's no context. How long is a piece of string?

Something that keeps going thru my mind when reading this is I would rather have quality over quantity any day. But that is me. People have different needs and desires in life. Think of life as a pair of shoes. We might wear the same size shoes but what I might find comfortable might hurt anothers feet wave

Well the context is this can any relationship work for the long term if you do not put time or effort in. Or do others also think it will just magically work with no investment

Investment in a relationship cannot be quantified by time spent together. What suits one, doesn't necessarily suit another. It's about commitment, communication and compromise

It has to work for both people. You are one of them.

Is it temporary because of circumstances or does he not want to spend more time with you? Would you be happy with this situation for years to come?

Excellent advice, and don't forget ; remain flexible as to those 'spur of the moment' desires or needs as they arise in all relationships, in both the old style 'romances' as in other types...Those can be invigorating or a nuisance...wine
