Lonely1: It is said that one in 25 do not have a true conscience.
They don't care if they are hurting others while in pursuit of their goals. Some enjoy seeing others squirm with pain and discomfort.
In a relationship they seem to enjoy seeing their mates discomposure. They might like to have as many mates as possible without caring about their offspring's or spouse's hardships. Some might use their bodies as bait to mislead others of their true intentions.
Yet these things do not cause them any discomfort because they lack the ability to feel any mental anguish.
Unfortunately they're out there and I do my best to avoid folks like that.
Yes, some of us sometimes wish we did not have one, so we would not feel bad for stepping on ants, or stepping on cracks so we can break our mothers backs?
Step on a crack, break your mother's back This is an old children's game, anyone who trod on the cracks between the paving stones was out, until only one player was left, he or she was then declared the winner.
Step on a crack, break your mother's back– Most of us know the old rhyme “Step on a crack, break your mother’s back.” Whether the rhyme is the cause of, or a result of, this superstition is uncertain, though belief in it persists in many people today, even if subconsciously. Come to think of it, avoiding sidewalk cracks is probably a good policy for anyone who wants to avoid tripping.

mollybaby: Is it an absence centre of conscience, or simply choosing not to use it?
The current book I am reading: 'The Sociopath Next Door,' and other books, seems to imply that they have an absence of conscience. How could a Ted Bundy do what he did and still seem as happy as he was each day?

Never heard of that game. People are mostly my conscience. When I'm uncertain of what to do I let my conscience guide me and I try to always follow it.
I find it hard to retaliate against dishonest people. Although at times I still disappoint myself, I've learned to know when to walk away. That is if my conscience doesn't wave a reprimanding finger at me...

My conscience is normally people I know very well, someone I've walked quite the distance with. Faceless strangers on a dating site don't affect me at all...

I hear they are very hard to spot because they are so charming and deceptive. However, once you start to ask yourself how they could not be aware of the mean things they do to you or others, the fact that they lie to you face and say they never lie, and the way they treat those who are weaker than they are:
