It is with a fawned interest that I read all the diatribe regarding the USA election. Interesting to say the least.

I am a white anglo-Euro CANUCK. I live in the frozen part of North America, and my brothers/sisters, frères/ sœurs. hermanos hermanas....we are the first at the "front". This is my home....I am but minutes from being into the USA,...quit your worrying...we will let the world know if this isn't working....look,...the USA/Canada relationship is unmatched on this planet...they are indeed the ELEVENTH province! Mexico is the TWELVETH!

I read posts worrying about global ramifications....every DAY its a couple of billion in the trade of trinkets up here! I would never forsake my ancestry, nor the COMMONWEALTH...however, realize,...I have seen nukes on this soil, understand NORAD and the DEW line....the only defense we have on the border is in regards to meat products and cocaine....if any countries should be worried, it should be Mexico and Canada! Until we start crying,...world....ssshhh! We will keep you posted! Ya all need to chill....we will be the first to "realize" the impact of a new USA government....

The Vikings, their picturesque brutality aside, had their moments of brilliance. Lief Ericsson and his crew sailed all the way to North America, aka 'America'. Some say he may have sailed all the way down to Manhattan.
They arrived, took a look and sailed back. Pure brilliance.

I was going to tell you this the other day but thought I'd stay out of all the venom that is being spread by other posters about Trump, our government and how much they hate the U.S.

IF anything catastrophic ever happened in America that my life was in peril, the only country I would move to would be Canada. I have always thought of Canada as a peaceful neighborhood with friendly people. That comes from members on CS who I have been in a conversation with who were very friendly.

You are correct that the USA/Canada relationship is top notch.

I've never worried or panicked about nuclear war. CS members like to put the seed in peoples minds that Trump will push the button when things don't go his way. He cannot do that not even with an Executive Order.

One other thing ... I love my flag a/k/a Old Glory. There is only one other flag that makes me feel cuddly and that is the Red Leaf of Canada. hug

I didn't vote for trump but I managed to benefit from his bombastic threats to raise tariffs on Chinese steel being dumped on the US market. I've been holding stock in US Steel since 2011 at one point losing over $15,000.00. After trump won the Electoral College vote, many investors started buying US Steel and other American steel producers stock driving my holding up into the green at which point I bailed out with a modest profit.

If he goes through with raising tariffs on imports and I have no doubt he will, you can rest assured that foreign countries will retaliate in kind and raise their own tariffs thus starting a trade war where no one will be a winner. Our exports such as corn, will go down along with manufactured goods and farmers will feel the effect of crashing agricultural product prices. The price of corn fund stock is already in the toilet while Iowa corn is rotting in the field.

The USA will not lose if we expost less corn. I could be wrong, but I think we save $10 billion at the pump annual because of corn.

The USA will survive and prosper again. I think trump will succeed economically. The environment here could suffer under Trump to but what I reall worry about is that Trump will put more f our youth in harms way for the wrong reasons in foreign lands.

I wouldn't worry too much about the corn , its not bought to do the US a favour . Beef has stopped its decline , hard to tell if Trump had anything to do with it . At one point last year US beef wholesalers could not get beef . Dairy products have risen sharply last month or so . Year ago US milk producers were dumping mill into pits . Good on you collecting on the US steel stocks .

Anytime a trade war happens, all countries involved in it suffers.
Take a very good look at what TPP is currently doing to the U.S. economy VS other countries involved in it. You'll then see why it's not working as claimed. It is so imbalanced it's pathetic. And not just in trade, but also in the global laws written within it. You'll see that it promotes trade wars on a whim by allowing certain countries to sanction tariffs as they please, to whomever they please, and for whatever levels of tariffs as they please, while restricting the United States from doing the same. It doesn't allow for a leveled trading field that works for all.
Same is true with NAFTA.
And people wonder why a lot of U.S. based manufacturing companies are moving overseas or to our neighbors. Or why small businesses cannot enter a global market and be competitive. Or why certain crops lie rotting in the fields...

No doubt, Canada and Mexico are affected by the USA decisions and more so because of the trading in with in. The problem is to speak lightly with not supports (reliable sources) of the effects of those trading agreements because they do affect both countries involved, the exporter and the importer of each specific commodity or services

Speaking of tariffs, there is a need to know in detail the whole trading, at least of the two countries trading and further the effect on the countries involved in that particular trade agreement.

Trading benefits one country while trading on one product/service while it works the other way with another commodity/service (including finances) and I doubt very much anyone here would know a detail the trading agreements and its effects -on both sides- brought to the table, but I might be wrong.

Regarding to the climate it has been cold and rainy here.

DaMooseLives: ..

Here is an example of what it is being advised to micro and small business people in case Trump does what he has said in campaign or (even if he does not).

(sorry it is in Spanish but in essence is to get informed, prepared and look for another markets as well )

Prepara tu plan

hug The USA has prospered under some amazing Presidents, and admirably survived some, well, bad presidents. Likewise here in Canada, we have had some great Prime Ministers and some who stunk, yet here I sit. I will sit here patiently allowing the USA to be introspective for a bit, before they have to settle down and adapt to a change in leadership. Only time will tell....and as always, Canada will remain steadfast friends!

Oh, I as well am looking at the more practical and day-to-day aspects of a Trump Presidency. Already his protectionist "talk" (and he is certainly allowed to do that for he represents the citizens of the USA) and talk of re-negotiating trade agreements, are without a doubt, of great interest and importance to Canada.

Yes, trade is a very complicated matter. Up here many are giving our leader "hell" for so quickly saying he is willing to renegotiate NAFTA (but he responded saying that if the USA wishes to renegotiate he will sit at the table looking for additional Canadian benefits). It is difficult for me to speak beyond my myopic perspective of being in a global "trade machine) when it comes to the US/Canada relationship and trade. Are we mere "puppets" of the USA? In certain aspects - yes. In other regards - no. Many professionals up here LEAP at the chance to move to the US....a brain and talent drain. Many companies also willing jump to the US if the opportunity arises.

The whole situation is beyond my comprehension!

But I have to admit...you have me scratching my head....from what I can gather, Central America is ALSO considered part of North America (continent wise)....by some, and part of South America by others....but Mexico? BIGTIME - North America!
