pedro27: Back in the throughout history instead of water the Irish drank homemade brew/beer, because the water was dirty and unfit to drink....so they drank brew and were merry, so I believe its in our genes/bloodline from our fore fathers in this land to handle it better than the rest of the world and enjoy it more too, past down to this current day...

You really do come up with some dumb posts Pedro ...

It's a fact that many European cities ( not just restricted to Ireland) had poor sanitation and they consumed 'ale' which was a very weak brewed beer of typically 0.5% proof ... the boiling killed off most of the harmful bacteria and of course alcohol is antiseptic in nature and prevents new bacteria forming (for a tile at least)

The exposure to small amounts of week beer led to the development of gut and liver enzymes that could break down the alcohol ... but of course mankind (being dumb) kept on producing stronger brews !

When 'white man' entered the USA and Australia (amongst other places) the local population had had no exposure to alcohol so small amounts of whisky could create a 'drunk state that lasted for days'

From experience I;d say Swedes n Russian probably handle drink better than Irishmen ... ie they remain gentlemen for longer !

But, little doubt Arthur was a genius when he produced Guinness !

I wouldn't recommend going one-one , in an drinking endurance test with a Russian .
When one has emptied the previous days food intake & drinking endless amounts of black coffee to bring you back to some kind of reality, you soon realise , that the previous days consumption, was just the start of drinking session that could last non stop for days.doh

The sensible thing to do, would be to line up all the biggest pissheads from all around the world, and sort the matter out for once and for all. Then it should be a yearly event with a perpetual trophy.

Actually if there is one thing the Irish ARE known for worldwide, it is being a bunch of drunks who can NOT handle their alcohol. :)
