I was just watching the RTE News on telly and I think a got "sniffed off" and that,s an understatement. They used 2 real-estate agents myhome.ie and Daft.ie as authority to state that property prices will go up by approximately 10% as RTE announce that 120 applications was made as Help-to-Buy scheme opens.

Why would RTE ask the very companies that want the property prices to go up (as they are fee or commission based or at least not offering independent impartial information) to state speculative future predictions of the housing market?

Here is a link to the RTE online article form. There is a video link to watch.

A couple of month ago there was a news announcement on the radio stating that we can expect (in the future)to see rented accommodation to significantly go up in price . The announcement did not state over what time period or from who they got this information from.....Basicly the news announcement was just a statement.. later that day they changed the "news" slightly to: Over the next years. Social Priming comes to mind.

Earlier last year I went to an Estate agent in Dublin wanting to look at some rented accommodations and the lady blatantly stated that she was happy that rents were increasing again as her company will make more money and repeatedly stated that I should expect to pay heavy rents....priming me to accept any price she stated. When she found out how little I currently paid she was horrified and asked me where I was living as she wanted to talk to my landlord. I did not tell her.

I think what "sniffed me off" is the fact that we seem to be primed to expect to pay more for property and rents because the real-estate company and agents want the prices to go up and might be happy to manipulate landlords to increase rents (because they can). This whole situation is a repeat of the property bubble burst that cost this country Billions in bail out money....

Its time for the government to create stricter rules for real-estate companies selling/renting out houses and flats. They have to much power and need a collar around their neck. It was a good start by the government to cap rent increases to 4% but they still have lots of work to do when the current situation making Irish people homeless.

Do not allow the real-estate fox to make the rules regarding the hen-house as the end result is never good for the hen.

Unacceptable.

My 2 cents. !
