In NZ they were putting arsenic in meat chickens food, makes the bird thirsty so drinks more and eats more, from day old to slaughter 27 to 32 days. You always here them saying they are no longer or not using hormones, but i've never heard the industry say anything about arsenic is added or mention never lone admit.

Myself and other here in Australia had local vet test layer chicken dung fertilizer called "dynamic lifter" a mulitpurpose organic product for all forms of soil preparation, ongoing fertilising of fruit, vegies and lawns, our vet received back a CSIRO report stating ten parts per milli of an insecticide called dieldrin. Can't have flies, lice or whatever bothering the chickens, no no...

lots of really good unhealthy chemicals are one way or another entering the food chain, but don't tell the fat cats...lot of 2,4,5-Trichlorophenoxyacetic acid, 245T contains dioxin, a chemical, you'll all know weeds are a scourge on every food producing country, here costing landowners up to $4 billion a year. Has half life 50,000 years and today derivatives are still been sprayed all the world. Millions of litres every year....
Likewise safe to feed to your baby hormone sprays like brush-off and round up, no longer do they say that the spry causes plant cells to rapidly divide, no no, they have adopted much more environmentally sensitive more accepted descriptions .of products widely use around home gardens etc, its all safe feed it to your kid and see for your selfcrying

We live in a society, where foods are available, all year round .
Stick to seasonal foods & avoid those unnaturally grown out off season. Eg strawberries in winter. scold

Make sure you know where your produce comes from, especially where meat is concerned.

Yes, we are being poisoned from all sides.

The government isn't going to force the issue, and the corporations certainly aren't.

So it is up to ourselves to do the research and eat the healthiest we can..

Recently, I heard about a chemical dihydrogen monoxide. It sounds terrible and the government should ban it.

I've heard it can be made safe by adding ethanol in large quantities.

Strawberries are available most of the year here and so are many fruits and vegetables yet some others have a defined season and it is wise and $mart as you say, to get what is in season and that should be fresh as well.

However, about the price of the strawberries and other produce:
If I get the strawberries from a local market (tianguis) the price would 1.5 (american dollar) per one kilo but if I get the same (kind of) strawberries from a store (like Sams, Soriana, Walmart, Costco, etc..) they will be 2.5 times more expensive.

That's almost free, compared to what we pay in Canada, even in season. shock

Mind you, that's in supermarkets, although farmer's markets aren't usually any cheaper, if not more. The produce is fresher though, which is always nice. grin

I used to check labels on most things, then I stopped for a number of years, but have been back into the habit of reading before I buy. It's amazing how much sodium and sugar (various types) there are in most products off the store shelves. I try to buy as basic as possible, cook from scratch, and eat as healthy as I can, but some days it's a matter of time. I also hate to admit it, but I do occasionally crave KD, which is probably less healthy than the cardboard box it comes in. laugh

I suspect that most early heart disease is caused by processed foods. Refined sugar, bleached flour. The less people touch your food, the safer it is. barf

Ref health and fitness.

Now it may come as a shock to you to find out that I don’t drink tap water! Yet I’m a fitness professional and instil into all my clients the importance of drinking water to not only improve their health but also to aid weight loss. In fact the average person should be looking to consume one litre of water for ever 50lbs of bodyweight! That’s right; if you weigh ten stone you should be consuming at least three litres of water every day!
OK, so you’ve just told me I’ve got to drink all this water – if I want better health and a better body but now you’re telling me NOT to drink tap water! What’s going on?

Quite simple really – do you really know what’s in tap water?
Tap water is treated with a large number of chemicals in order to kill bacteria and other microorganisms.
Here’s a list of just a few of the chemicals:

Liquified chlorine
Fluorosilicic acid
Aluminium sulphate
Calcium hydroxide
Sodium silicofluoride

Don’t forget that once your water leaves the water treatment plant it travels through pipes, some of which may have been underground since Victorian times. It is almost impossible for the water not to become contaminated by something undesirable. How many of us still have lead pipes feeding into our houses? You can pretty much guarantee that if your house was built before about 1970 it’s probably still fed by a lead pipe at the very least from the water main in the street to your stop tap, so there’s every chance of heavy metal contamination.
Over 300 different man-made chemicals have now been detected in British tap water. Water companies only test for around 20 of these chemicals. These twenty chemicals are all present in varying amounts for example DDT, Simazine, Atrazine, and 3,4 Benz pyrene, (weed killers).

I can go on and on here, a recent study by Brunel University showed levels of benzotriazole and tolytriazole in
Isn’t it any wonder the fluoridation of water is banned in all other European countries? …just saying!

These are some of the reasons I buy bottled water.
