Don't worry about the respect bit, my daughter's officially a Lady by title so we're drop the airs and graces - but don't you think when these people do something wrong it seems to give them better opportunities in life. If he hadn't 'got caught with his trousers down' so to speak would he really have been in the public eye for so long???

Sorry, I was being facetious! I was PA to a Knight of the Realm who was a wonderful man, had to deal with all the VIPs, a few of which were "up themselves" but most were fantastic people and rather down-to-earth, I had immense respect for them. But, I'm sorry, after everything JA has done, I think he ought to be stripped of his title!! He's a disgrace! There are many who deserve this accomplishment (though, I am slightly biased, of course!). Thanks for your input, though, I do agree, though I certainly wouldn't give him any of my hard earned dough by buying any of his books, etc......

To tell the truth I bought my daughter a piece of land in Scotland and with it she gets to use the title Lady of wherever it is (I've forgotten) it's just a novelty. I have respect for those in society who have earnt their titles by doing good deeds or in recognition for their services to our country. I have always said that titles should be something that are earnt, as respect by others is something we earn. And you're right those with a title who do wrong within the eyes of society, not according to the House of Lords etc, should also have they're titles withdrawn - in the olden days they would have been stripped of their title and all their riches returned to the state. But it's the same for those that commit crimes and make millions out of selling their stories, it almost makes doing something illegal or immoral more profitable than being a good citizen.
