"The average Turkish citizen consumes about seven pounds of tea a year —
that's about 1,000 cups, according to data from market research company Euromonitor International"

lifeisadream: # 260 the rice types

I use some of the different types although Parboiled is one of the easiest to cook with and easy to get.

Simple recipe:

Sauté chopped onion in olive oil
add rice (3 cups)
add vegetables (carrots, etc in tiny cubes or any other shape, fresh and tender corn, etc..)
In a blender place garlic cloves (3 to 5) salt and water, blend them (tomatoes are optional)
add to the rice and cook for about 12 to 15 min.

That will give about 8 portions to go along with some protein.

Sometimes I also add lots of celery leaves to the garlic in the blender and not tomatoes.

Seems delicious.Thanks.hug

Rice is such a versatile dish in some cultures.
"white rice" is quick to cook for the busy westerner but if we only looked beyond our nose. laugh

lifeisadream: Banned Food

Farm-Raised Salmon

"Farmed salmon are raised on a wholly unnatural diet of grains along with a concoction of antibiotics and other drugs. This diet leaves the fish with unappetizing grayish flesh, so to compensate, they're fed synthetic astaxanthin made from petrochemicals, which has not been approved for human consumption. Farmed Salmon fed these chemicals are banned in Australia and New Zealand. "

I have 'caught' farmed trout at a nearby farm close to where I live, but I have never researched the farming procedure.

it is not only westerners, the masters have not compass nor parties.
.

Those pictures of the rice seem tasty but a bit oily.

The traditional way of making rice (white rice) here is rather not-practical.

- soak the rice in warm water
-drain the rice (and so there go the vitamins...)
- dry the rice
-fry the rice (and it takes more oil than when using the parboiled rice)
etc....

Using parboiled white rice I use about 1 tablespoon of olive oil per cup of the dry rice and always with lots of vegetables.

I will make "Enchiladas Rojas" for lunch, like in the below picture but with just tiny dots of sour cream and a little bit of grated "queso añejo"

If you are in Canada I would assume you do have better regulations for food producing than we do here yet it would be wise to check the farming process not only on what they feed the fishes but the whole process as you have said.

Because of my work I have been involved in some fish farms and I have asked the suppliers for the BPA content of the liners and they have not idea but I doubt they are BPA free.

Should people be concerned about so many things?
No.

We just must get info and then take the decisions on what to feed on and above all enjoy the food.

How do you cook the trouts?

Enchiladas rojas have not trouts, they are filled with beans, cheese, chicken or eggs.

Trouts are expensive.
Trouts are being "camouflaged" like salmon and the kilo is $399 pesos (about 20 USA dollar) and their quality is not good.

Wow what a lot of fuss just to have a small cup of tea lol
They may consume a lot of tea in Turkey, apparently 4-5 cups a day, but strangely, it is hard to find figures for Chinese tea consumption, going by my own experiences, I would suggest 6-7 cups a day, and they do have a very large population lol
They drink about 4 of these flasks a day, but reusing the tea leaves, each flask is about a cup and a half.

I spoke about trouts because the farmed trout at a nearby farm close to where you live.

And I felt curious to know mexican trout recipes.

Trout is the common name for a number of species of salmonid fishes. This could be what we call here "trucha asalmonada", an hybrid.

About their price, it's expensive compared with here.

I was curious about the tea because I do drink lots of tea and making the tea in the "Europian" laugh way was not enough for me and I have had Tea in Turkey but never did pay attention to the making and recently I found a video of a Korean girl -who post lots of videos about her cuisine- and one of it was for a making tea with natural pomegranate, although too much sugar in them.

Anyway, I am experimenting with some recipes of my own and just yesterday I made a tea with a fresh mandarin and it was delicious and I do prepare my tea in glass jars (flasks) as well and I use only honey.

For the Turkish tea, keeping the tea resting on a double boiler must give the tea more depth of flavor.

i have never been to China, so no experience on real Chinese tea including its preparation.

Spain has a great cuisine regarding to sea food.thumbs up
My Mother used to make fish meat balls in a tomato sauce with fresh marjoram and they were delicious but trout in meat balls would be a sin.
When I have prepared salmon (or trout) I use some white wine and just herbs, dill or tarragon, simple but the type of salt used is important. I got some salt from different places and the flavor is just unique one from Yucatán here in Mex and others from other places.

rizlared: .

thank you Rizlared for the image about the flasks (doble wall) so the tea can macerate for a longer time before the water reaches a warm temperature just like a thermo but i like the glass material better.
